The Best Monster

Sometime in 2006, after September, I believe. I'm uncertain whether it is still available on places like eBay. I can't imagine anyone who bought them would want to part with such a thing, but you never know. I think George Lucas got tired of dodging rocks, so he relented and released unaltered versions of the trilogy.

I'll check around and see what I can find out. Someone must be selling it, still.

Wow, I think just about all the critters in the movies have been mentioned so far unless I'm mistaken. C of K, you mentioned earlier that Hitler qualified as a monster to you, well I agree. That being the case, I would have to nominate the Emperor, especially after his disfigurement by Mace. He not only acted more like a monster then, he looked the part. Three sneers for Palpatine!!!

Mace didn't disfigure him, he did by using the dark side of the force. The lightning did it.

My favorite monsters are the Rancor, Sarlaacc and if sentient beings qualify, the Emperor.

Well, it was sort of a joint effort. Mace was heavily involved. But Palpy hardly cared. He went on with his well developed script without missing a beat, after Mace was killed. The man/monster was truly a vile creature the likes of which mere mortals have never seen.

Thanks for clearing that up, y'all. I suppose Mace could have left his sabre down and taken it instead of deflecting it so Palpy could have remained dashing looking while doing his Dr. Evil. O.K., so I guess a close second best for me would have to be, well you guessed it, Jabba the Hutt. While Jedi is not my favorite out of the six, the scene at Jabba's court and the Luke/Darth/ Emperor confrontation scenes are amongst my favorite in the saga...

I loved everything in Jabba's Palace. The Emperor was also great.

I think it would have put an entirely different spin on things. I bet the movie would have been a lot shorter.

Of course! You're correct, Huttman. I meant the sail barge. Had Jabba allowed her to go, according to Luke's vision, the movie would have been much shorter.

Yeah I meant the sail barge as well. I agree with you, it would have been a lot shorter, possibly ending about 10 minutes after that scene.

Nah, Luke wouldn't have been powerful enough at that point. He may have been a Jedi but without his saber he was still almost defenceless. It wasn't until much later that he was able to be an unstoppable warrior (and boy did he get good later!)

I liked the Acklay. I liked the way it looked, moved and the way it screamed. It was more powerful than the Nexu and looked smarter than the Reeku. It was definitely the most awesome creature within the arena.

I understand where you're coming from, but as an older fan it has to be either the Dianoga or the Rancor. :)

I think it's a shame that so many people are unable to appreciate the original and prequel trilogy for what they are. I think being an ''older'' or ''younger'' fan should not influence your preference for a monster.

I saw the original movies before the prequels movies came out. Yet I think the Acklay is the coolest Star Wars creature I've seen so far. I never really liked the Rancor. I do not really like humanoid monsters. It feels unrealistic to see a monster with a big upper body walk on two legs like humans do. It just does not make any sense. The Rancor would have probably looked more realistic if it used its knuckles as well.
