John Le Carrè

Cant say i agree with you judging only by The Spy Who Came In from The Cold i think he is very good writing, character, plot wise.

The ending i agree with you. The last chapter was so dramatic, memorable but the last scene was so pointless. Why would Alec Leamas do that after eveything.....

Other than that i would say i agree with the critics, fans call that book a real classic of the genre.

Next i will be founding out if he is like this in every book or this one might be a rare book of this quality.

I haven't read the book yet but I did enjoy the series A Perfect Spy with Peter Egan. Another spy series I enjoyed both book and TV was Len Deighton's Game Set and Match trilogy which featured the character Bernard Sampson, there are two further trilogies, Hook Line and Sinker and Faith Hope and Charity, there is also a further book called Winter which follows two German brothers from 1900 to 1945, this book gives a background to some of the minor characters in the trilogies and also includes a British spy called Brian Sampson who was Bernard's father.

I've always wondered why SF fans talk about Le Carré’s work so much.

I've never read any of his novels because I thought he wrote thriller.

Is there also imaginary technology or a futuristic element to his writing?
