Writing Regularly

If I have an actual writing project in the works, I can turn out 1-5k a day, depending on how bad the writer's block is. Unfortunately, all my stories are in the planning stages right now, so I'm lucky to get 500 words in a day. Hopefully I'll get my outline, worldbuilding, and character stuff done soon so I can get to the first draft. :)

Does anybody have a definition of writer's block? I've had fallow periods, sure, but I can't honestly say I've ever been incapable of writing something (the question of quality isn't the issue, here ... :p)

Hello,

Is there anyone on this forum that is writing regularly everyday at the moment and keeping to at least 1000 words a day also.......

If so, please share some of your inspiration on how you are doing......please:p

I used to be doing that for the past several weeks (perhaps with a break of a day or two here and there). However, I'm now enrolled in a class that is taking up about just about all of my time :(. (Intensive four week course in organic chemistry just about leaves you with no life). The few days before I had to go to this self-induced prison, I would turn out ~3-4K each day; one day I had even written 6k. I'm not sure how I got the inspiration for it, I just had all these ideas, and it was all I could do to get them on the screen. It was even hard to stop writing at night because I had so many ideas; but it was already about 3am by that time, and in a few short days from then, I would have to be waking up every day by 7... Curse this organic chemistry class!!! I will be so glad when it is over.

I was writing eight hours a day before and after the beginning of the year, of course I did a lot of editing too. I went at least two months like this. I still write everyday for a couple hours.

Terry Goodkind, author of the Sword of Truth series, claims to write 14 hours a day 7 days a week. That was an inspiration for me. Unbelievable.

Well, I don't know what causes it for me, but sometimes I can sit and stare at a project for what feels like hours and still get nothing accomplished. When it's that bad, I can't even write crappy stuff. I think it's mostly the distractions of life and such, though, that keeps me from writing. I get too focused on everything else and forget to just live.

I couldn't define it for myself at first, even when I was in it. But then I remembered and dragged back up a quote by one of my favorite authors, and it frames perfectly what, for me, writer's block is: Hell.

Neil Gaiman said:
My idea of hell is a blank sheet of paper. Or a blank screen. And me, staring at it, unable to think of a single thing worth saying, a single character that people could believe in, a single story that hasn't been told before.

Staring at a blank sheet of paper.

Forever.

Anyway, that solidified it for me :)
