Book 7 - Unanswered Questions (SPOILERS likely)

I've got an unanswered question as well. It came to me when I thought that it was so sad Teddy was never to know his grandfather...

What about Harry's grandparents? On both sides? The Evans' would surely have loved to take him in, seeing as they were proud of having a witch in the family... And what about James' parents? It's - as far as I know - nowhere mentioned what became of them...

~Sira.

That's a very good question. However, I assume, although JK never so much as hints at it, that both sets of grandparents were killed when Voldemort got into power the first time. Harry's parents were the last witches and wizards that he killed, plenty of others went the same way.

I'm wondering what happened to the Dursleys...

The Evans were Muggles (as we know): although it would be quite unusual for both of Lily's parents to have died by the time she was 21 when she was killed. Although James' parents are more likely to have been long-lived, in this instance they are also more likely to have suffered at the hands of the Death Eaters in the lead up to the 1981 massacre of Harry's parents. It's worth considering that since James was in Gryffindor it is reasonably likely that at least one of them was too (though not definitively), which would make them more likely to stand up to the injustice (and therefore be targets). It could also mean that JKR forgot to work out their ages and likelihood of being dead and got it wrong.

Well, some browsing of wikipedia (see link in post #20) revealed that in some obscure place JKR seems to have stated both sets of grandparents being dead. *shrugs* I'm getting the feeling I really need to do a complete reread of the series...:D

I seem to think she was asked about it in an interview rather than it being stated in the books.

I guessed that as well: if she wasn't a Slytherin in Harry/Draco's year (or possibly in the DA) then it's unlikely we'll have met her. And so she's basically irrelevant. Pure-blood, almost certainly though. Which means a few years younger or older than Draco, or foreign, since "all" British witches go to Hogwarts.
Just wondered - it being Pansy Parkinson would have rounded the whole pairings thing off nicely.:D

mmmm....i loved the penultimate chapters about the battle of Hogwarts, but i didn't like the 19 years later bit....all of the kids being named after dead people was a bit corny and childish to me...another unanswered question - what happened to Kreacher and Winky?

Naming kids after dearly loved ones who have died "in battle" (or at least "fighting evil" / "in the name of good" / "doing their job" etc.) is very common. I would imagine studies of childrens' names after major conflicts, even 9/11, will reveal such a trend. I thought the biggest reflection of character was not the general trend but Harry's acceptance of Snape's role in it all.... after (literally) years of hate. Overcoming that takes character.

I guess the death and redemption of Snape were what JK was talking about. I have to say that this was also the redeeming factor in the story.

It also shows that Snape's dislike of Harry was not simply based on James mistreating him when they were younger, but also out of the fact that Harry was the result of James and Lily's courtship; all the more reason for Snape to have ill-feelings toward Harry.

I want to know what happened to the Dursleys, who the new headmaster/mistress is of Hogwarts, whether Harry and Ginny go into 12 Gimmuld Place or Godric's Hollow and if Kreacher is still with them, what Harry, Ron, Hermione and Ginny and the rest are now doing as jobs.

You'd imagine that 19 years on Kreacher would be dead, though Harry and Ginny might have Dobby working for them, as a paid elf... And from the portrayals in the books, I'd suggest that Ginny is most likely to be a full time mother.

Speaking about the supposed death of a main character - well, technically, Harry did die, didn't he?

Presumably that was meant to mean Lupin? Or Dobby? Or Hedwig? Or Fred? Or Mad-Eye? Or was changed...

I was a bit surprised that all 3 of the core group survived, but then again a bit relieved given that there might have been rioting otherwise :p

That's what we were supposed to think... maybe JKR was just tricking us?
I wonder if I had bet that HP would die would I be the winner or not? :)
