TolkEIn - misspelling or conspiracy?

Then there's the Hysteria of Liddle Mirth, edited by Christiaan Tolkein.....
 
I'm a Chinese, I've never had that misspelling too ^.^ though yes, I've came across people spelling the name as Tolkein and definitely as 'definately'.
 
Who's they? I mean you hear of them everywhere but who are they?

I was taught the following rule:
"I before E except after C, when the sound of the diphthong is ee"​

and then was told that rules in English almost always have exceptions.

As for names, the rule is to spell them correctly (;)).

It could perhaps be thta he himself pronounced his name Tol-keen rtaher htan tol-kin- could it not?
Or possibly just a lot of typos.
