I saw this on the Miniatures Page today. Dark Sword Miniatures are making a line of 28mm models based on ASOIAF. The link has pics... and you can click on a pic to get the full press release. The ASOIAF pics are the greens, i.e. the ones in green modelling putty, not the painted figs.

These are obviously not mythically proportioned like Warhammer, nor even heroically proportioned like Reaper. They are rather realistic.

If you look at the press release, you'll see close ups of Jon Snow, Melissandre, Sandor, a Maester, and a Night's Watch archer. The Hound's face should be fun to paint.

For use with ASOIAF roleplaying, D&D, or... you could refight Tyrion's trials by combat and see if he'll fly or if the Viper could win... or you could paint Alleras' skin whatever color you want!

I just went over to the Dark Sword Miniatures site and found they've added models to their range. The latest addition is Alfyn Crowkiller. In the previous batch, you'll notice the model of Dany with newborn dragons.

Thanks for the links Boaz I love the Victarion mini. He seemed a little more "refined" and less savage in appearance than the way he has in my mind but i think it's growing on me.

Eddard.

Shae. Notice that she's wearing the Hand's Chain.

Sam.

Euron. Like Victarion, he's not an 18th century pirate. The Greyjoys may eschew the title, rank, and religion of Knight, but they sure won't hesitate to arm themselves like one. When Victarion battled the noble knights, men-at-arms, and marines of the Tyrell bannermen, he was the only one in plate.

Since there's obviously not a lot of excitement regarding ASOIAF miniatures, I won't start a new thread...

But I just found the Fantasy Flight Games (the maker of the ASOIAF Collectible Card Game... which I have a bunch of...) is producing a table top minatures game called Battle Of Westeros. It seems to be based upon their Battlelore system which I've seen but never played.

I'm really trying to keep my inner geek under control... I'm excited!!! I just love miniatures... I love painting them... I love moving them around the table... I love rolling dice... I love saying, "Archers, forward!"... I love shouting, "Charge!"

What I need to do is post pictures of my 15mm (just over half an inch high) fantasy Westeros units. I have Greyjoys, Starks, Tyrells, Tullys, Martells, and Lannisters. Cavalry, swordsmen, longbowmen, crossbowmen, city guard, wolves, sparrows, mountain clansmen, the Night's Watch, knights, Kingsguard, Eddard, Tommen, Jaime, the Old Bear, Rhaegar, Euron, the Blackfish, Joffrey, Brienne, and Gregor.

In addition to these Westeros units, I've got a fantasy Samurai Army (samurai, archers, spearmen, samurai on grav boards, allied Japanese Drow spearmen), a fantasy Medieval Priest Army (priests, death priests, crusaders, war altar), a mythological Greco-Macedonian Army (slingers, centaurs, hydras, gods, demigods, elephants), and Undead Army (skellies, wraiths, zombies), a fantasy Barbarian Army (Conan look-a-likes galore), a fantasy Chinese Army (rocket batteries, terra cotta warriors, chariots, chu ko nu, tibetan allies on giant pandas!!!, mongol allied cav, dragon, allied Sumatran giant orangutans), an Anglo-Saxon Army, a Norman Army, an anthropomorphic Wolf army (spearmen, hunters, archers, wolfmen with Wolverine-like claws, big heroes), a fantasy Lizardmen Army (crossbowmen, heavy infantry, wizards, giant tortoises with howdahs), a fantasy Dwarven army (lots of crossbows, axemen, spearmen, bear cav, pony cav), an Orc Amy (orcs, goblins, wargs, ogres, trolls), and a massive fantasy Medieval Army (knights, peasants, mercenaries, archers, light cav, medium cav, heavy cav, tons of infantry, wizards).

Of course I also have unpainted armies still waiting on the shelf... a fantasy Native American Plains Tribesmen Army (the Buffalo Cav and nature spirits will be super cool), a fantasy Egyptian Army (Anubite Archers, Croc Swordsmen, tons of chariots), a fantasy Arabian Army (carpet riders, eunuchs, wizards), a fantasy Indian Army (elephants, elephants, and more elephants), a fantasy North Pole Army (Santa, his sleigh, Mrs. Claus, tons of ginger bread men, Reindeer-taurs, abhominable snowmen... Okay, Santa's tired of giving out coal to naughty kids, he's just gonna get rid of naughty kids once and for all!), a fantasy Elven Army (spearmen, cav, wizards, Ents, wood elves, rangers), a Narnian Army (talking Mice, Badgers, Unicorns, Rabbits, Squirrels, Centaurs and Fauns), and a anti-Narnian Army (minotaurs, the White Witch, black dwarves, giants).

Now if I'd only drunk less bourbon tonight, I'd not have geeked out like this.

Has Aegon ever come back or did he get killed or something? I just found my character profile I had written for that game we were going to play. I'm so disappointed that never happened.

I'd love to see pics of all that stuff.

Have you heard anything recednt about the computer game?

Have you heard anything recednt about the computer game?

Just want to say ('cause I got my geek on this weekend too:)) that while I don't know anything about ASOIAF computer games, I suspect there may be a few of us here who enjoy Sid Meier's Civilization series (apologies to the mods if this constitutes "promotion" in some unacceptable way).

Anyway, Civ V (five) has been announced and I'm excited. I love these games.

Imp, I need to get photos... Mayhaps in a month or so... I'll make this a priority

As for the ASOIAF game... Googling reveals the first site as Wertzone... This has to be the Werthead we know here. I suspect he knows the status of the games... but there does not seem to be any news on this blog in the last 355 days... But in the discussion to Wert's announcement of the game, you can see a profanity laden tirade from an impatient reader. If GRRM receives this kind of support from 'fans', then he probably needs real and sincere encouragement from the rest of us.

The website of the developer, Cyanide, appears to be either down or gone. This does not fill me with confidence.

Civ 2 may be my favorite game ever.

Civ 2 was the reason I wanted a PC, many many years ago.

Shame about the ASOIAF game (and the dimwit fans who think throwing profanities at Martin is supposed to motivate him), but with the imminent release of the tv series I would expect another game developer/publisher to pick up the rights for a game. Could be a great RTS or turn-based strategy like Civ.

Live for Civ.

I tried to get a copy of Civ 2 the other day and failed. Don't like the newfangled games as much. I'd really like to have an ASOIAF version of Civ.

Boaz, the only one that I didn't know was "Japanese Drow". I've been a Drow elf in role playing, but Japanese? Must be missing some series or other.

A now defunct line of German miniatures, Demonworld (simply the best fantasy 15mm minis ever made), had some Elves with Japanese style armor and swords.... so I painted them as Drow. My friends and I play home-cooked rules so I can create whatever ridiculous and nonsensical armies I want.

Anyway... I only found one picture of these Elven Samurai on the web. For some reason the link does not go straight to the picture... scroll down to the fourth picture on the right side, click it, and then click the top picture on the next page and you'll see what I'm talking about. It's hard to tell, but on the stand of spearmen with the banner, you can see the captain's armor and katana.

Finding good pics of 15mm minis is difficult. Most people don't post greats pics... Moreover, most people (especially me) paint for tabletop quality and not display quality. By this I mean that what looks good from six inches does not look good from six feet and vice versa. The subtleties of shading and freehand designs get lost when a mini is in a unit placed two to eight feet away. And the bold colors and dramatic contrasts that make a unit stand out on the tabletop can look childish when held up close.

I'll start a new thread when I get my pics on the web.
