What ever happened to those good old Dystopian Society books?

How about some of Iain M Banks' work? The alien societies the Culture fights seem pretty dystopian. IIRC, the Iridans of Consider Phlebas had a sort of theocracy/warrior elite society, and Azad in The Player of Games was based on a sort of institutional cruelty. They're not Earth, but they come across as a distorted mirror of it.

I could see that. Any time society has a chance to interact a new idea, future science or political or philosophical I think there is an opportunity to turn that idea into dystopian vision of the future. It is a warning of what is to come if extreme reactions are carried out in regards to that idea. I can see your point though I don't think this was Spielberg/Kubrick's idea. Though I could be wrong, Kubrick did direct, "Clockwork Orange"
