Robert Jordan aka James Oliver Rigney, Jr. has Passed Away

Im in shock, as a huge Jordan fan this is a hammer blow. Another giant has fallen never to rise, others may fill a gap but you can never truly replace a titan in their particular sphere.

My thoughts are with his family and all at dragonmount. As carai'eil, I once spent some time discussing the work of Jordan and now mourn with all those who also do so.
Candles will be lit to float down the river.

Is it not said at the death watch; that it is not recounted how old he was, but how well he lived. Let it be so with Jordan for he lived and wrote well indeed!

Assuming that Book 12 is still released, reading it will be a very bittersweet experience for all of us, now.

The last embrace of the mother welcome him home...

Book 12 is defintely going to be released. He made sure to inform friends and colleagues of the main plot lines for the final book I assume for this very eventuality. When it comes out who knows BUT there wiill be an ending.

I thought that would be the case, but I hadn't heard for sure. Cheers.

This about sums it up for me.

reading it will be a very bittersweet experience for all of us, now.

I've told everyone who I reckon needed telling about all this, and now I don't know what else to do. Not certain I even want to read the last book. I've been vocal about the quality of Robert Jordan's later works, but I always stuck in the game for the eventual ending...an ending true to his vision down to the word.

Now it seems almost as if it wasn't meant to be written by him. Robert Jordan's gone, but the story must go on? This is an awkward situation. I'm sure it will be interesting to read when it comes out, but something tells me it just won't be the same.

And still I'm amazed that through everything he actually saw to it that the work would get finished. I'm fairly well devastated, and in awe of his devotion to it.

I'll read the last book, because Robert Jordan would most likely want those who read the series to see how he envisioned it to end. Even if the writing isn't the same, the story ideas would be. It'll still be a bittersweet experience, though.

Of course. You're right. Thanks, Talysia. He obviously did want us to read the end.:) I'm trying to figure out whether or not I would put that much focus on my writing so near the end. I don't think I focus on it near enough right now!

Did you ever read his blog on Dragonmount.com? He was talking about working on the book almost right up to the end.

Yes. From most of the posts I read on Dragonmount, I expected him to live long enough to finish the series and then begin a new one. I didn't expect he would be gone before the end, so that A Memory of Light would have to be finished by someone other than Robert Jordan.

I was hoping for that too.:(

Same here. I spent a lot of time at Dragonmount before this happened, and I was still surprised when the news came through. I read a few of the blogs, yes, but nothing recent though. I guess that's why I was so surprised.

I was another who stopped reading the series but the writer himself always struck me as a very generous and all round nice man. He will be sadly missed and now we will never read what else he had in store for us readers.

I think I might cry, not fair, my thoughts are with his family

The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the age that gave birth to it comes again.

Also the dedication in book 1

To Harriet, Heart of my heart, Light of my life, Forever.

It's really amazing how close to home this hits me, as I just mentioned in another post, I grew up reading the Robert Jordan series. I had been eagerly anticipating book after book from him since I was around 9.

The outpouring of sympathy and compassion really goes to show what an author means to their fans. Douglas Adams a handful of years ago, also..

My condolences to his family. He won't be forgotten.

WOT is great..great great...he put me in to reading fantasy again....i can't believe he,s gone.I feel sad, he had so much more to give.
My condolences to his family.

it should'nt have happened. He was my favorite auther, I really hoped he would finish the wheel of time and somehow write somthing better still than the WoT series. Now nothing will ever be able to top it.
