Anmd what about poor YuYu in Her in the Shadows? A bit of a daft idiot fighting the demons and giving his live to save the world?
And of course Pagan.
But on the given list i said Beltzer. Gave his live and took 19 nadir with him to save his friends. In the end they honoured him by placing his weapon back in his hand, instead of chopping him up as per usual.

One of the most beautiful and moving death scenes was the Riamdada.

He was not a fighter as he was borned a cripple. He was a gifted metal worker, and befriended by Connavar.

He did not die in battles or betrayed by enemies. At the point of his death, he was surrounded by friends but who did not know that it was time for him to go.

Only those who had the sight saw his magical transformation and his final liberation.

Warmest regards

Shanlung

When i read of Bison jumping of the cliff with two enemys in either arm it made me cry, he was a true hero in that moment and it was so sad his was the best death in my opinion

The problem with this question is that DG wrote about some truely heroic characters who were willing to give up thier lives to help defeat evil, so it's tough to pick just one character, but as LEGEND was my first DG book then I've just got to go with Druss.

Ones that make me cry:
Bison: i loved him even tho he was a bit of an arse. I love/loathe his death! It was really sad for me.
Jaim: Mum hated me because i didn't cry the first time i read it. I had to hide from her the second time i did. She still saw me...
Druss: I cheered for him, he knew he was going to die, and still went out and took as many as he could. Love him!
Karis, The Ice Queen...(anyone else notice they used a picture of Keira Knightly on the Front cover?)

I haven't read any in a long time, so i can't think of too many.

Ultimate:
Waylander!!!!
He was the first DG book i ever read, and reread, and reread and reread...lol. I still cannot think of Hero In The Shadows with out getting sad...it was a brilliant ending for him, a great gift.

.....i have to go find a tissue box.....

bison should win it. every man (or woman) has the potential for greatness in him (or her). even if it is only manifested at the very end...
I had to vote for Grymauch...It was so well written, and emotional.
But If I had to go It would Be like Bison.
I loved the quote: "He just flew away, he spread his big white wings and flew away. do you think he'll come back someday?"

I went with Finn. Walking into a horde of Nadir just to die beside his best friend. No matter how many times the Nadir attacked Finn he could not feel the pain because his mind was so set on trying to bring Maggrigs corpse back.

Even though I have already voted and wouldn't change my choice(still Bison) another one that hasn't been mention is Nuada from the KoDR, he wasn't a fighter but gave his life to help the cause of others, tied to a tree and shot with arrows

I think Jarek Mace riding into battle (knowing he would not return) is my fav with Druss comming in very close second.
many other heros knew they might die in battle (whither they cared is neither here nor there as they enjoyed the risk)
Jarek Mace on the other hand did not enjoy battle, was not a hero and loved life to excess, he enjoyed life and the satisfaction it provided.

{No death is as great, as one that saves a nation}

I CANNOT REMEMBER WHO HE IS sombody please help me, tell witch book hes in please.

Just off the top of my head, wasn't he the reluctant hero in Morning Star? Not read that book in a while so not 100% positive.

C'mon guys. Anyone read the sipstrassi? Culain on the bridge? Saddest for me is manannan. He deserved more after everything he'd been through. But hey, maybe he made it?!

I just passed by to look at some David Gemmell names to use for log in identities (an oddity of mine) and came across this list, thank you very much for reminding me of all those passages of heroic writings, I hope they encourage people in whatever way they need examples, it's strange how the power of those paragraphs of gemmells dealing with death can still choke me up. I think I'm going with Grymauch though such a huge character in more ways than one, wish I'd met Gemmells stepdad or was it uncle...apparently Druss, Grymauch etc were all based on that guy....you wouldnt want to upset him would you?.

I would have to say Jaim from Ravenheart, to die heroically while rescuing the love of your life. I have read that book twice and it gets me each time!

Pagan from King Beyond the Gate would rate the highest for me. Loved the line about heroes in it.

New to the forum, have just read through the thread, started convinced that none could be better than Druss. Then as I progressed through each post it was a case of 'ooh wait him, no definitely him etc' so i've given up on picking one as there are just too many memorable deaths. As i've just finished reading Waylander 1 & 2 again ones that stood out for me were, Durmast & the assasin whos name i can't remember who saved Waylander from the Nadir, after he thought Danyal had been killed. Both because at the end neither could figure out what had spawned an act of heroism.
Honourary mention to Belash dying whilst killing the albino to avenge his fathers death.
