I thought Magisterium (which she co-wrote with Holly Black) was much closer to Harry Potter than the other books. Not all of it, and it was enjoyable (it also had flavourings of Divergent, I thought).

It's an enjoyable read, and maybe because the co-author Holly Black is a better writer, IMPO.

Oh, yes. She's incredible. I loved The Curseworkers trilogy. Sigh.

News on the TV adaptation front for The Mortal Instruments:

It's being produced by the same company that produced the film but fingers crossed that ABC takes a more active role so perhaps we won''t have another disaster but the article mentions that Clary is 18. Wha--??!! She's 15, and then 16 in the later books!

Well, true. The first 5 seasons of Supernatural were very good. After that, it's been a patchy affair once the creator Eric Krupke left.

Haven't watched Nikita yet. Might do.

I thought that a Shadowhunter series would do much better in the hands of Buffy/Joss Whedon alum like Stephen DeKnight (who was most recently the showrunner for Daredevil) though. But this is ABC Family though. Not sure if they can do the books justice since most of their offerings have to be PG-13 rated at best.

Mary I completely agree, I LOVE Cassandra Clare, but was left a bit disappointed by her carryover of previous fan fiction work. Really old trick... I like her fan fic more I think!

I'm loving the casting too, I think they really got it right...and tbh I kind of prefer the unknowns. More exciting because it could kind of go either way...

Just finished reading LADY MIDNIGHT (the first book in the new Shadowhunters trilogy - THE DARK ARTIFICES).

I must say that Emma Carstairs is a much more appealing female protagonist than Clary Fairchild.
