Which Book Should I Read?

i say that if you start a series, you should carry it out to the end...i mean..if you only read the first 4-5 there would be lots of lose threads and you'll always be wandering what happend in the end.

Yeah, I always do that even though sometimes it seems like a bad idea. I have read some completely awful piles of utter $#!% because of this habit. Considering WoT isn't total crap (or so I've heard), I think you should read it to the end. You should just skip the parts with the baths and all that if you really feel like moving more quickly. The thing about reading to the end is that if the books are really bad enough, they won't leave you with any unanswered questions to compel you to keep reading. So far, only a couple of books have been so bad that they made me want a refund from the library. For the chasing thing and the bath, there is worse, albeit very little. Anyways, I'm rambling. The point is, read it to the end.

To me the only books that were a bit drawn out were 9 and 10. Crossroads actually taking place at the same time as the happenings in Winter's Heart was very disappointing since you knew that the story was not moving along. Even Jordan stated that he tried something different with Crossroads and it didn't work.

As for Knife of Dreams, I thought that was the best book next to Fires of Heaven.

Crossroads of Twilight was number 10, and Knife of Dreams was number 11. I think I'll be rereading the series next year sometime, to get the story fresh in my mind before the last book comes out. (Assuming that it'll be released next year, of course.)

I would suggest that you at least read the first book, then decide from that point. The first book is almost written as a stand alone book in that there is no major cliffhanger to draw you into book two (at least that's my recollection of it. Its' been years since I've read it).

I've got the first 8 sitting on my shelves - you can have them cheap :)

a couple are even unread

First post! Ok, now that that's out of the way, out of the books in the series that I've read (books 1-5) I liked The Eye of the World and The Great Hunt the best. The whole complexion of the series changed after The Dragon Reborn, with very little happening storywise. I'm reading Lord of Chaos now, more than half way through. It's encouraging to hear that the last 150 pages are spectacularly written. Robert Jordan was capable of writing some pretty intense fantasy sequences, I just wished he didn't so dramatically change the complexion of his series.

Welcome Fedos! You should introduce yourself properly in the Introductions thread! If you want, that is.

I think everyone should read The Eye of the World it's really great. I lost enthusiasm after the third book, however.

I'm currently in the middle of a re-read of the whole series. I'm on Path of Daggers now (book 8) and still loving every single moment of it.

It becomes a different type of story part way through the series, but I still love the latter half. I enjoy spending time in the fantasy worlds I read about, and becoming totally immersed in the setting. Wheel of Time does that for me more than any other series I've read. Absolutely love it....

I seem to be going away from what most people say here but being honest i loved every book, and as for the second half I thought was amazing!!
I loved that the stories take time to pan out and that they are not rushed, the chase scene takes time to pan out because of the circumstances.
It is a great read for anyone into fantasy and if you ask i think it is some of best books ever written.

Well i think you would be completely lost if u didn't read the first. Eye of the World is a pretty good book.

i am reading them right now and am on book ten and just want to say i never really noticed a slowing down i actually read fires of heaven the slowest and blazed from 6-9 my fav so far was the end of 6 dumai's wells my fav quote is from there also !!!!SPOILER ALL NON WOT FANS AND PEOPLE NOT ON BOOK 7 AND HIGHER TURN AWAY RIGHT NOW OR U WILL DIE A LITTLE INSIDE AND ALWAYS REGRET READING THIS!!!!
Asha'man KIll! if u are reading this far u will be tempted to google search asha'man don't it will be bad

I recently started reading Leigh Butler's reread blog over at Tor.com and it got me started on my 4th or 5th reread of the whole series. Still love it. Jordan's world still seems to appeal to me more than any other fantasy series. Go figure.

There are a couple of threads here you might want to peruse about this long series. In my openion 1 through 6 are good and have the promise found in a master work. Volumes 7 through 11 should have been finished by Jordan and then turned over to a good editor as the story content in them could be contained in one good volume. Others will or course disagree with this... you'll just have to decide for yourself. As for the earlier post that said the "final volume 12" would be out soon, that turns out to have been oremature. Sanderson (the aurthor chosen to finish the series) says he will need 3 volumes to finish it.

And the next book will be released October 27 in the States.
