The Famous Five

Anyone seen Five Go Mad In Dorset by the Young One's Team. I though that captured it brilliantly.

Not sure this new version could top it though.

And the sequel: 'Five Go Mad on Mescalin':D

Seriously, though, what next? I tell you, the day they give the Disney treatment to Swallows and Amazons is the day I buy a gun and go postal in Euro RatWorld.

They did make a film of Swallows and Amazon (not disney thank God) and it was really true to the book. I remember it being the only film I've ever seen that didn't shatter one illusion about a book I loved.

And Timmy went on holiday to Korea, or was that a vicious rumour put about by the Secret Seven.;)

I saw that - The BBC also did adaptions of 'Coot Club' and 'The Big Six' that were true to the books.

It was 'Coot Club' and Great Northern?' that got me interested in birding.

I wish they would leave The Famous Five alone. Let it be what it was and not modernise it in any way.

I loved the Famous Five (and other Blyton stories) growing up. On the one hand I can see why they'd want to "update" - but on the other, surely there's enough crap around about modern day kids. Why don't they keep it in the style of the time, as a "historical adventure series" so to speak, with just a little tweaking - like giving Anne a character for instance. Are kids these days really only interested in stuff they can relate to directly? I doubt it, and I wish they wouldn't "dumb stuff down" when the differences in time and culture could be what makes the difference between just another run of the mill kids show and something that really makes a mark.

I read Famous Five as a girl, and I loved it. By the looks of it the movie is going be nothing compared to the books, nothing at all.

I hope they don't do this to the Secret Seven.

I'd be furious if they changed, 'Lashings of Ginger-Beer,' to 'Gallons of Irn-Bru.' Just don't get me started on any other changes.
