Damm it! I just read the two preview chapters from Dance for the first time (That I can remember anyway) and now I'm dying to read it xD After reareading AGOT CoK SoS and FFC all in a row I'm sick of Westeros (But not the SOIAF setting, ******* love it) Me needs to read about the eastern continent!
There been any updates on the release date yet? *Sigh*

Edit: And haha, I bet people clicked on this topic hoping for news :p <Cackle>

Oh, you big tease, you!!!

I, personnally expect news from GRRM soon...you know you gotta have a glass is half full kind of outlook on these things.

I have a feeling I started my reread of the series way too early. As of right now I'm not confident that he'll even finish the entire series. It's taking forever to get A Dance with Dragons and that book was already mostly written -- although I hear he decided to *rewrite* a lot of it...argh! There will probably another 4 year wait for each of the next two books. If we're lucky the series will be complete in the year 2016 and I'll be nearly 40 years old!

Almost, 40! My gosh! Where's the justice in that??? ;)

Actually, it wasn't really "mostly written" but some chapters were. Wert and Raven seem to have better knowledge of what GRRM has actually done to the books, especially with the AFFC/ADWD split.

He will finish when he finishes is all one can add.

My thoughts exactly, I've nearly finished Dance again now. Hmh, are the Dunk and Egg books (think they're books, might be e-novels dunn) Anygood?

The Dunk & Egg novellas are short stories. The Hedge Knight was originally published in Legends, edited by Robert Silverberg, but that's out of print. It can currently be found in Dreamsongs, Volume II, GRRM's short story collection. A graphic novel version is also available from Dable Brothers. The Sworn Sword can still be found in Legends II, again edited by Robert Silverberg, but that's going out of print as well. The graphic novel version comes out in summer 2008. The third story, The Mystery Knight, will appear in the Warriors anthology edited by GRRM and Gardner Dozois in 2009.

No real news on ADWD but GRRM's lady, Parris, shared this tidbit recently on the Westeros boards:

George says he's NOT going to BosKone, he's staying home to concentrate on you know what.

I do have a small Boxing day gift for you all though -

Hisself has been working well the past few weeks, and although I do sometimes suspect that these rages of creativity that often coincide with midwinter madness and all that entails might have something to do with avoiding shopping, decorating, and being social for days if not weeks on end, it's often true that his patterns of decades indicate that he can get deeply into the project for weeks on end in these dark winter months.

So no George at cons for a while, I think. But those of you who live nearby can see him at Page One Books In Albuquerque Feb 2, 2008, for the major WILD CARDS signing party.

LOL only 40 ??? In 2016 I will be 63 !!!

In another post I speculated that the final book will come out in the year 2017. I'm sticking with that now. So make that 64 ;).

The older I am, hopefully I'll be that much wiser, insightful, introspective, and experienced... i.e. the story will be that much more meaningful.

I think this is begging for a Beatles reference (which would fit in nicely with GRRM's name as well) but I will resist the temptation ;)

And GRRM will be... *drumroll* ...dead. (Ask Robert Jordan fans.) *pinkglasses*

The chances of GRRM coming down with the same disease as Robert Jordan are fairly miniscule, give amyloidosis' extreme rarity  So this comparison is rather meaningless.

Casually speculating a person's demise is not always accepted as being in the best of taste.

Previously, I posted on these boards regarding GRRM's health and the future of ASOIAF. I now consider those posts inconsiderate at best... my heart was callous toward feelings of GRRM, his friends, and family who love him. I can imagine the anger and frustration my own family and friends would have if they read speculations on my death. We can really look at a couple of pictures of GRRM (from the shoulders up) online and try to accurately gauge his health? I think this would be difficult even for a health professional.

On the other hand, if my personal physician was discussing my health and future with his colleagues, then I think that conversation would have merit. So any discussion regarding GRRM's health on these forums that are not initiated and consumated by his doctor must be dangerously and grossly speculative at the least.

I do understand the concerns with wanting the entire story of ASOIAF. I want it too, but ultimately the story, until it is released, belongs entirely to GRRM.

Well said Boaz. I am glad someone with a cooler head posted a reply before someone else who was blinded by rage could post a real bitchslap (like lyself was after reading such callous speculations).

He will finish when he finishes.

He's only 59 years old. These days that's still young. I've worked in medicine for the past 10 years and I don't really consider someone as "old" until they are at least 70. Even then it's still subjective.

There's really no question that he'll live long enough to finish the series barring a tragic accident but he still has to *want* to finish it. There are times when it seems like he doesn't enjoy the series anymore although that could just be regular frustrations with the writing process that every author goes through. He's got a myriad of other interests as well that take time away from him writing. I'm not one of those people that knock him having interests outside of ASOIAF because it's those interests and his vast experience in many areas that allows him to write such a grand series. Still, I think there's a real possibility that he won't finish the series for whatever reason. At the very least I'm prepared for the possibility.

Not meaningless for ill informed. GRRM is overweight.

Most Americans are overweight and the average American life expectancy is about 75 (rather higher for best-selling authors with great health care). Robert Jordan also didn't die from being obese (he was actually in the best shape for thirty years apparently before the illness struck), but from a very rare (as in 1-in-one million people have it) blood disease. So the comparison is indeed not very apt.

Just wanted to say that this is discussion board, virtual space for chatting and exchanging opinions... and I've posted my opinion. GRRM doest not live the healthiest life (he looks overweight, no matter what and how), but I didn't say he'll be gone tomorrow. Some people are making drama, some are considering themselves "very smart" for motivating the meanings of the others' opinions. And now I'm justifying my opinion, lol. I wish him long, long and merry (as it is) life, fo r I like him a lot (and his works). :)

Robert Jordan also didn't die from being obese...

He might have. ^^
I know his story, Werthead, so do not worry, but I was talking about their delaying of their sagas. This isn't my conviction, it is my fear, for gods' sake. :catelyn:
