Yesterday, I finished A Storm of Swords and began A Feast for Crows. As I've never been a big reader of fantasy I was skeptical about my ability to REALLY enjoy these books. I have to admit that Mr. Martin has won me over. Somewhat annoyed by the whiny natures of some of the lords and ladies, I've enjoyed how a number have been killed off with such suddenness.

I've revelled in Dany's growth as she's burned and sliced her way through the cities across the narrow sea. Jon Snow's travails on and beyond the wall are compelling, and his subsequent election as Lord Commander of the Night's Watch bodes well going forward, though me thinks he likes the ladies, and they may continue to be a weakness. Tyrion's release by Jaime, and his vengeful loosing of a crossbow dart into the bowels of his irritating father raised him considerably in my estimation. How quickly things changed for the Lannisters. I also found Lysa Arryn's sudden launch out of the Eryie quite enjoyable. The death of Robb Stark, the resurrection of Catelyn, the suffering and begrudging heroics of The Hound, Joffrey's murder, etc, etc., were all events that really improved this series for me as it progressed through ASoS.

Too bad about the Red Viper of Dorne, an excellent character. I'm waiting for Bran Stark's sections to appeal to me more than they have. I assume the she-man Brienne is at some point destined to writhe in pleasure from the stumpy caresses of Jaime Lannister. Maybe something really bad will finally happen to Sansa Stark at the hands of Littlefinger, and maybe her sister Arya will finally arrive somewhere.

I could go on, obviously. I've mainly steered clear of this forum, due to the copious amounts of spoilage, and look forward in coming weeks to wading through some threads here after I finish AFfC.

Yeah, it was a bummer to have the Red Viper killed off. I liked his character a lot.

Your comments on various character personalities come off quite critical, like you are expecting the author to sell you everything. Enjoy the series, it is a wonderfully immersive story.

I'm digging into AFFC pretty quickly. I have to admit these books are addicting. I struggled at first to get into a AGOT, but have enjoyed them more and more as they progress. In this last one, I like the section set in Dorne. The Sand Snakes are pretty cool characters from what I've seen, and so is the Captain of the Guard.

I'm hoping to finish this up by the end of the week. Then I wait for more like everybody else.

I had to pick my jaw off the floor after reading the final Dorne chapter. I see Doran Martell in an entirely new light now. Surely one of my favourite characters.

Definetly. He's one smart guy.

Yeah, well re-read Jon's chapters while concentrating on his fondness for Ygritte... and notice how often he compares her to...

Arya.

But they are not brother and sister... I think they're cousins.

Assuming R+L=J, then they're first cousins.
I don't really get into all of the theories people concoct around the series, but are you saying Jon is not Eddards son? I would have to disagree, as it makes no sense to me. If you'd like to enlighten me please do, but she's his half-sister.

Please tell me what I've failed to overlook, I really would like to know. You'd not be spoiling anything for me. :D

Eddard + Elia = Jon, dont tell me Jon's a dragon whilst he walks with a wolf. :p
