Smoking and Writing.

Update:

I've been officially (100%) smoke free for roughly three months now and I feel fantastic. No unsightly weight gain; my senses of taste and smell have returned (which I'm so glad for; I didn't start drinking Earl Gray until after I'd acquired this nasty habit, and I didn't realize how wonderful my Twinings and Tazo actually were...I wasn't sure it was possible to fall more in love with Tea) and I no longer feel like poo-poo after my workouts.

The downside is that it has definitely affected my writing - though it's getting better, thankfully.

Great stuff Commonmind. :)

One thing I did a few years ago was switch to decaffeinated coffee (I had a kidney stone and coffee was listed as one of the possibilities because it is a diuretic) now, when I find anything like work or writing a problem, a single cup of coffee gives me a hell of a kick-in-the-pants.

Ironic you should mention that. I gave up coffee a while ago and lately I've been using that as a way to boost my brain during those times of low-productivity. About half of a cup and I'm hopped for hours. :)

I had no intentions of giving up smoking....that was unto the government placed warning on the packets, I did some research and found companies infuse over 600 trace ingredients (many that are fatally toxic when taken in larger doses) to keep consumers addicted, and these toxins can be found in sperm and ovum, is it just a coincidence asthma in children boomed when society adopted the cigarette as its mascot for coolness. However the main culprit is coal tar, which is created from the burning of plant matter ( hash and weed also create coal tar when burned).
Scientists painted coal tar repeatedly on the side of a mouse, later that mouse developed cancerous growths where the coal tar had been painted.
Coal tar is classified as a carcinogen in its pure form. (coal tar products such as soap shampoos artificial sweeteners all must contain less than 5%, none contain more than 0.5%) anyway.... when cells are damaged they receive instructions from the DNA within them to terminate. Carcinogens infiltrate cells and adhere to the DNA (double helix) when this happens the cell can no longer interpret the instructions to terminate, so it keeps making copies of its damaged self..this we call cancer.
After finding this out i stopped smoking, (previously i smoked for 20 years) obviously every one is different and their resistances to carcinogens vary also, 99% of cells die off before they become infected, but as you age cell growth and renewal slow down, this is why older people are more susceptible to cancers.
WoooOOwwWoooo scary.. lol.. im sorry for the long winded post, but i hope this helps you stay off them :D.
I am now 40 (almost) and been a non smoker for 6 year, I guess it down to how serious you take you life and your mastery at taking control of your own mind, which incidently, will continue to try and trick you into thinking of a reason not to stop.
