O Fortunate Floridian

Ummm... possibly... if I decide to translate it.

Not to push, by any means... but I'm certain there are plenty of others besides myself who would be very interested in this, all the more so as it is a very important part of Lovecraft's later life, and the preservation of his work....

The more I think of it, the more I like the idea. I could kill two birds with one stone and use it for the SSWFT, an APA of which ghyle and I are members, and then run it here.

Sounds like a good idea to me... I look forward to seeing it when you're done....

The Barlow article is still on the backburner, but I'm currently writing a review of O Fortunate Floridian for Lovecraft Annual.

The review has been handed in, and I'm very excited about it! :) It will constitute only me second appearance in print in English, after my article in Two-Gun Bob. Lovecraft Annual should be out around August 20. :)

Congratulations! I look forward to reading it... even though I've yet to have a chance to sit down and read the book itself at this point (the last several months have been... extremely awkward....).

From the editor bio in the back, it seems that Univ. of Tampa Press will also be the publisher of Joshi's revised Lovecraft bibliography. It will be out in 2008, I think.

I heard from a reliable source that Joshi's HPL bibliography is being sent top the printers today. It may be available within a month. Keep an eye on University of Tampa Press for updates!

Thanks, Martin. I've been anxiously awaiting that one, so this is good news. Now, if I can only manage to drum up the money for it when it does see release....

I have it from a very reliable source that the book has been printed and now has a physical existence. It's not listed anywhere yet, though.

Surprisingly, it is a paperback -- my source is as surprised as I am, and speculates that a hardcover might appear later.

I'd been meaning to get in touch with someone at UT Press personally, but things have been so hectic around here lately that I hadn't had a chance. Thanks for keeping me posted on this... will definitely have to try to get my hands on soon....

And now it is available:

This new and exhaustively updated comprehensive bibliography from the University of Tampa Press presents, for the first time, a systematic catalog of Lovecraft's writings from his first appearance in a newspaper in 1906 down to the end of 2007. All of his book publications--the great majority of them posthumous--are listed, along with their contents; appearances of his works in magazines and anthologies are tallied; and information is supplied on apocryphal works, texts edited by Lovecraft, and other miscellany.
The work is divided into three main sections: 1) Works by Lovecraft in English; 2) Works by Lovecraft in Translation; and 3) Works About Lovecraft.

Bravo! Will be ordering a copy in the next 2-3 weeks, definitely....

Again, thanks, Martin, for keeping us updated on this....

By the way... off-topic, but what happened to Studies in the Fantastic? I know it was dropped, but do you happen to know the reason(s)?

Not enough customers. The subscribers numbered in the lower two-digits. :(However, there will be a new journal from Hippocampus Press that will step into its vacant shoes.

That is a great pity, as what was in the two issues I've seen made it very much worth investing in....

The different categories of works about HPL will certainly prove helpful to many.... Looks good (but then I wasn't expecting otherwise)....

I got it today, and it is good! Sure, there is the usual mangling of Swedish titles -- letters falling off, as in "trskeln" for "tröskeln" and letters being changed, as in "fänge" for "fånge" -- but apart from this it looks fabulous.

Thanks all for the contributions to date.

Has Joshi ever written a Locraft pastiche or any other work of fiction? If not do you think he would do a good job or does it require more than just a close understanding of the subject matter to produce an excellent fascimile of the orignal or something along similar lines that refelcts that era of pulp fiction?

S. T. has express'd a keen interest in writing a biographical novel of Lovecraft's life. This is the thing about S. T.: every year he says, "I've done everything I can with Lovecraft," and then every year he has some new Lovecraft project in mind or going on. He amazes me. He was once so anti-Mythos -- now he is editing a line of Mythos books for Perilous Press, has edited an anthology of Cthulhu Mythos stories for Mythos Books, written his amazing and provocative The Rise and Fall of the Cthulhu Mythos (is there a thread about that here? if not, there will be!).

I want to know more about Barlow and his relationship with the Lovecraft Circle. I've heard/read so many rumors. What was his relationship with Derleth and Arkham House? I oft return to Eyes of the God for the beauty of its prose and poetry. His double sonnet, "H. P. L.," haunts me. I want to return to Providence and sit upon a tabletop slab and write a sonnet to Bobby Barlow. I hope to base a significant Sesqua Valley character on him for a novelette I plan on writing for me new Hippocampus book.
