He updated!

i dont know anything about a Dragon in Winterfell, it seems to me that the rock is warm because of this termal waters...
As for Bran, I always thought when Dany arrives to the Wall bran will reach for one of her dragons.

The Dragon under Winterfell was mentioned in "A Clash of Kings." I can't say exactly what part, but I just finished re-reading it and I noticed it. As for whether or not it will come to life, who's to say? It seems that most of Old Nan's other stories are slowly coming true. However, a frozen dragon coming to life under a castle bears too much resemblance, in my mind, to Robin Hobb's "Fool's Fate."

As for Bran controlling said dragon, or any dragon for that matter, I find it doubtful. It's a little too cliché for GRRM, and besides, Bran has his wolf. He's also not the only warg; Jon is a confirmed warg, and Arya has "wolf dreams." Hopefully she'll be reunited with Nymeria at some point so that she can strengten her powers.

Hardly a novel idea. In Arthurian legend it was said that two dragons fought underground, which was symbolic for the conflict of Britain.

Aye Lacey, and also Tad Williams wrote about a dragon under a castle. Very common idea that dates way back.

A dragon under Winterfell? That would be a great idea. :)

I don't recall explicit mention, but I did note GRRM raised the hot springs as a particular issue to take note of. Now because of this thread, I figure that must be how Daenerys can really take the Others head one, as it always seemed like her current dragons would be too small to be entirely threatening - certainly against ravening hordes of icy undead thingies. :)

Her dragons are still young though. I hate the idea of the dragon under Winterfell, but the more I think about it, the more logical it is becoming. The place is in ruins now and nobody lves there. This kind of sets it up ready for the dragon rising from the ashes. I only hope that Martin writes this peice well or he could ruin the book.

There is no way Martin could ruin the series, unless he took until 06 to publish 4. Martin is a tactician, with skills beyond that of the greatest to ever wield a pen!

He should be the one to sing and perform that song by MC Hammer. He and he alone!

And dragons are everywhere! Be ready. And be ready for the next update by Martin to include a new excerpt from book 4, which will clearly represent Arya, the greatest plot of all in ASoIaF!!!

I'm glad that he's still sticking in there and adding to the book.
I don't care (much!) how long it takes as long as the finished product is as good as Storm of Swords!
What's everyone's Favourite sample so far folks?
Mine has to be Cersei's! The idea of seeing things through her eyes is scary though!

Cersei's sample sucked frankly. She so pathetic now without daddy. She's just a hottie.

The best sample has clearly been Dany's: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/feature/-/533281/ref%3Damb%5Fright-1%5F102047%5F4/104-3645883-4328742
I think her dragon is framed by the Ghscari for the death of the child. Hard to say though. Where is book 4, dang-it!

"The Prophet" was great too! The dude drowns people and then whips out CPR!!! How epic to know that he's mastered CPR!!! My friend Lucas is also a master of CPR. Who's gonna win the Kingsmoot is my question???

On the topic of dragons, in the 'Arms of the Kraken' novella about the choosing of the next King of the Iron Islands, Euron Crowseye comes back with a horn that supposedly can control dragons.

Two questions:
1. Do you think it was because of Euron that Dany's dragons are starting to be unruly or is it just Dany losing control of the dragons?
2. Is the horn the real deal?

Well, imho I doubt that the horn would be fake after such an introduction but I'm rather skeptical about how far you'd be able to control dragons...

I liked Cersei's sample if only just because I'd see things from her PoV although I agree she's still pathetic. The end of it was definitely very good though.

Do you think the new mystery PoV will actually be a character we know, or a completely new one? Eg the Hound as opposed to some new random person in Dorne.

I believe the mystery PoV wiill be someone we know but to the extent of knowing I am not sure. Martin will probably make a link somewhere that involves the new PoV... I would like to see it be Jaqen.

Oh, I certainly disagree.

While I've loved this series so far and think it's easily the best ongoing fantasy series currently on the shelves (series that are one long story as opposed to series that are set in the same world or have the same characters but are otherwise fairly self-contained tales), the sheer bulk of each one of these books, as well as the length of time between each release, leaves Martin plenty of room in which to muck things up and steer his baby of course. It could happen overnight, in the span of a single volume. A lot can go wrong in 1,000 pages.

No, I don't think that is going to happen. Yes, I have confidence Martin will continue to go strong. But if recent history has taught us anything about hugely popular fantasy series that are still in progress ...

... they go downhill very quickly, when you least expect it, and most of the time you don't notice until you're a full two volumes into the decline.

Nonetheless, I have high hopes for the next installment.

blah... Martin is a genius... his series will continue to be as such... GENIUS. There is no way a genius can muck up genius.

The cat has spoken and it shall be as such!

Kool-Aid is okay, but only in moderation.

I'm not sure I could agree with that. One of the things that appeals most about Jaqen is how mysterious he is. If GRRM wrote a Jaqen PoV we could lose that...

Where is this "novella" the "Arms of the Kracken?" Did Martin author it? I've never heard of it???

As for a horn that controls dragons, that pretty much sounds like cheese to me since there's already a horn that controls dead giants.

Brian and his boy erik will probably edit half of this though, so don't worry about what I think.

My name is Ericka...and you only get edited when you post something graphic and/or offensive. If you can manage to remember that, you won't have any trouble here. :)

Yup, it was a short story GRRM (basically a sample chapter or two from AFFC) and appeared in "Dragon" magazine issue 305

****SPOILER WARNING*****

It basically deals with the fallout from Balon Greyjoy's death and the outcome of the eventual kingsmoot between Asha, Victarion & Euron Crows-Eye.
