ICE - Who gets Joffery's Sword?

Bran represents moping and whining! His personality is so boring it made me miss tons of important hints the first time I read through because I couldn't wait for his chapter to end!

I must be weird - I quite enjoyed Bran's chapters - especially the one where he nearly flew :)

You aren't the one whose weird Tansy. Except for a couple naysayers here on the Forums, most others I know who have also read the series, quite like Bran.

Really? I have thought since the very beginning that Bran's chapters stood out by a mile as being dull. It was really weird, they don't even feel like the same author as the guy who writes the Arya chapters! (Which are often my favorite by far)

I prefer Arya's chapters - she's one of my faves :) but Bran's didn't bother me as such and I think his dreams will be important later

At the moment I'm pretty sure the sword is just lying in some Red Keep armoury, gathering dust, waiting to be combined with its brother once again and held firmly in the capable hands of a certain Jon Stark.

Also I liked Bran's chapters because they have Meera Reed in them. I'd have green dreams about that if you catch my drift...

The problem with that is that the Red Keep no longer exists, and the hand, and not the royal family lived in the Red Keep.

I thought the Hand lived in the Tower of the Hand which was within the Red Keep, as was the place the royal family lived? Actually, I am pretty certain. Cersei only burned...I can't remember, either the Tower of the Hand because its where Tywin died or Maegor's Holdfast in an attempt to flush Tyrion out of the walls. The Red Keep itself remains the home of the royal family, though Cersei was intending ot build a bigger, better castle separate to King's Landing.

Really, well i'm gonna have to reread it then, been a while. The way i remember it the the Red keep was built later on, and in it was the the tower of the hand, whilst the royal family lived next door sort of speak

My understanding is that Aegon the Conqeror laid the foundations of the Red Keep, his personal castle, at King's Landing. His son, Maegor the Cruel, finished the project and immediately murdered all of the workmen to keep the secret passages secret. I assume that this same Maegor made an addition to the original plans... Maegor's Holdfast.

The Eddard and Arya chapters of AGOT that depict the arrival of the Starks and their first weeks there give a good impression, excuse me... they formed my impression of the Red Keep. The Tower of the Hand is within the Red Keep. Remember during the siege, Sansa is able to move around from the Great Hall back to her chambers in the Tower of the Hand even after Cersei ordered the Red Keep sealed.

As to Joffrey's sword, I would expect that many people would forget it, yet certain others would not lose track of it. Auranne Waters left in secrecy, he might have pocketed it. Varys, Baelish, the High Septon, and even Pycelle might have spies watching it. I've always wondered about a discussion at Cersei's Small Council where she said Littlefinger requested some of Robert's old tapestries. Baelish got them at the end of AFFC if I'm not mistaken. The tapestries could have been a cover up for spies to steal the sword from KL. And then in AFFC, when the Lords Declarant meet with Littlefinger Sansa realizes that Lyn Corbray is working for Petyr and that Lyn likes to be paid with boys and/or swords.

Err isn't the sword Briene had Joffery's sword? Jamie still has the larger of the two.

What nobody re-reads AFFC?

My impression was that Tywin gave the larger to Jaime and the shorter to Joffrey. I assume that the sword that Jaime gave to Brienne was his and not Joffrey's. I am sure that as Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, Jaime has access to the king's personal armory, but giving away the king's personal Valyrian Steel would still be a crime. (That's assuming that Tommen inherited all of Joffrey's possessions.)

If that is the point, then Jaime pilfering Tommen's sword might get lost in the confusion of the transition and times. Yet, I think that Brienne would need a full sized blade, not a short sword.

I though I had read that Jaime gave Brienne his sword as he didn't want it or wasn't deserving of it. He gave it to Brienne in order to keep his oath to Caitlin in some small way?

I believe you're right Tansy. I think he gave it to Brienne to try and save/protect Sansa. He told her that he wanted the sword to be named 'Oathkeeper'.

Wow did I actually remember something correctly :D

Go me *dances*
