Dance with Dragons release date?

I don't know, but I'm glad they do. If I had to brave Christmas retail orgies for a book I wanted I would be pissed.

Christmas orgies??? I'm pretty sure that's not in any church calendar.

Rationing ADWD??? No way, HJ. I'm gonna splurge. When I bought AFFC, it took me six hours to get out of the bookstore parking lot... I just sat in my truck and read. The only reason I drove home was to get to the bathroom. Sooooo, I'm gonna probably do the same with ADWD. I'll stock up on food and drinks (and a bathroom) and I'll barricade myself in for twenty four hours or so.

Why do publishers avoid releasing at the peak of the Christmas rush? I'm jus curious.

Because Christmas is when they flog their back catalogue, the bookstores put out their 3-for-2 offers and things and absolute tons of celebrity cooking books and stuff come out. So publishers tend not to want to release anything than mega-huge bestsellers in December and sometimes January. GRRM is approaching that bracket, but isn't quite there yet.

Plus if they like the author to do signing tours when the book comes out (and they will with GRRM), the author is unlikely to want to do it at Christmas.

Thanks for the news Werthead!

Good stuff.

Outside of the Christmas orgies.

I don't plan to ration or splurge. I plan to read it, and then as soon as I finish, read it again carefully.

This is not a joke, before any of you ask. Amazon has removed the Sept. 30, 2008 release date, and subsituted the following:

APRIL 30, 2013.

NO, I AM NOT LYING.:mad::mad::mad:

Martin hates us. He really, really does.

Now that I have reflected for a while, ever think that Amazon might use its considerable marketing power to influence its suppliers?

Think that maybe they are giving Georgie boy a hint?

Or perhaps it is all a conspiracy, hatched to drive up sales....

Well, I've made it across the ocean safe and sound. Typing this from an internet cafe.

No, I didn't finish the novel, though not for want of trying. Nothing to be done about that but push on when I return.

Looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones in Spain and Portugal.

In my absence, all my email is being handled by my assistant, Ty

The book will be done when it's done.

Complaining about this is like bitching at trees because they're leaves turn color during fall.

true - besides its not like Amazon knows anything about the release date - they just ask someone in the publishers office (probably some really annoyed secretary who is tired of being asked every day when the book will be comming out so she just threw a random date out - and then the Amazon lacky just said "ok" and put it up

Hate to disagree, but perhaps the man might consider NOT putting out release dates until it is done. Putting out a release date and then not meeting it is a kind of lying, and it pisses off people. Perhaps he should toy with the idea of sitting his arse down in his office, and start typing.

Many other authors I know of refuse to even breathe a word about release dates until they deliver the final draft to the publisher, and there is no chance of re-writes needed. I don't think the man has got past re-writes.

Meeting a deadline once in a decade would at least show that he is capable of keeping his word.

But he is keeping his word - his word is not to publish till its finished.
Besides its not him who keeps asking for the date - its the publishers and us who keep asking - pressure mounts up and he gives a date and works his best to get there - remember many here are writing and I know myself that there are times when it is best to put down the pen till you get in the mood - else what you write is nothing compared to what you know you can right.

Like I have said before, I don't mind waiting - patience is a virtue - and we don't really have any other choice in the matter but to wait it out

im not complaining thebook will be better if he sees problems with it but i will be pissed if it never gets finished
