For me, it was when Oberyn Martell finally got his chance at the Mountain. That was a fantastic build up to the fight, and had absolutely nothing to do with the real reason they were going at it. I think I shed a couple tears when the Red Viper was forever silenced.

I also refused to touch the book for a couple days when he lost. :p

That was certainly a great fight - but what an anticlimax (for me, anyway). Getting caught inside Clegane's 'Zone of Death' was a schoolboy error. I found myself very disappointed with Oberyn as he was supposed to be so damned cunning.

I'd agree that the Viper vs. Mountain fight was the most intense, but I also really liked the Hound vs. Beric fight.

Best was Oberyn v. the Mountain, I agree. And I apologize for my honorable mention, that I am forgetting one of the names, but Bronn v. The knight of the Vale for Tyrion's trial by combat was also excellent in A game of Thrones, largely based on the stakes.

Must stop lending out the books :)

Single combat would definitely be Oberyn vs Gregor.

Best battle would be the storming of The Wall by the wildings.

Oberyn and Gregor Clegane was a great fight, but was a little disappointed the Viper ended up dead. He seemed much more interesting than his... brother (I think) in the latest book.

I second that disappointment. However, the Viper did not care at that point about being cunning. His rage really took over. Although he was trying to provoke the Mountain to rage, he was fighting out of it himself. Oh, and damn his pride, too.

I would have loved to see him in further chapters.

I don't think it was a lack of cunning. By the time Gregor caught Oberyn, he had been poisoned, disarmed, and pinned to the ground (with a spear going through his torso). Anyone else in that predicament wouldn't have even been able to lift their arms, let alone crush anyone.

But, at least Martell's death is leading to a very interesting scenario with Doran and Dany ;)

I have my book right here with me, the name you are thinking of is Ser Vardis.

Yup Mountain vs Viper was the best fight, becaudse the outcome took me by surprise :)

Hound vs Dondarrion, cool fight with Dondarrion getting his sword lit on fire and HOund fighting with fear in his eyes.

Valdis vs Bronn gets third place as this just showed how Bronn really is a sneaky git and using speed and agility againt the heavy arnmored foe and almost losing as he gets shieldbashed.

Would like to tip my hat for the KIngslayer vs the Cow for their fight in the woods before they got caught, really showed just how dangerous the kingslayer is with a sword even in his weakened state and just how much he lost when his hand sought employ elsewhere :)

His hands were still tied together, too! I would loved to have seen a scene with a full-strength Jaime fighting. Probably would have been spectacular.

Egen. Ser Vardis Egen.

Suspense is what makes a fight, imo. I knew Bronn would defeat Vardis. I knew Jon would kill Qhorin. I knew Victarion would kill Talbert. I knew Belwas would kill Oznak. But the Oberyn-Gregor fight was suspenseful. Yet my favorite fight was Arya and the stableboy in the Red Keep... she stuck him with the pointy end.

The fight I am most interested in is the battle at the Tower of Joy. The build up to that, Eddard's conversation with the three Kingsguard is very dramatic and very well written. The fight is barely detailed at all but what is given hints at a very intense combat. It hints at Eddard engaging Arthur Dayne in single combat, getting the worst of it and Howland Reed saving his life, but we don't know. That in turn hints that someone like Jory's father or the other northmen who accompanied Eddard fighting the White Bull and Oswell Whent. The other fights are well detailed and well written but everything I read about this fight fires my imagination.

How is this even a debate? After the Red Viper v. Mountain fight I had to put the book down and go have a cigarette....and I dont smoke.

It's not really a debate but I still hold out for Arya with her weasel soup.

Next thread, favourite ******* or how about favourite undead character.

Hm, most thrilling fight?

1. The Police and myself after i left the club all drunk after the bar fight. Wait, does that count as two?

2. Me vs my computer when it doesn't work.

3. This Kock-fight i saw in Puerto Rico. (Our bet lost, but Pedro "the Kock destroyer" sounded like he had promise. He tasted better than he fought :p )

No, but seriously .... I know we have no clue what really happened in either of these cases, but the barest mention of them gets me giddy.

The Tower of Joy fight and Rhaegar and Robert at the Trident.

Gotta go with the flow here and say Ser Gregor vs. Oberyn. When I first read it I thought the outcome was obvious. Of course Oberyn would win! What a shock that one was. Right up there with the beheading of Eddard or the Red Wedding.

My second favorite fight is the Tower of Joy. It's odd that we don't see much of the fight but that it feels so epic. It's one of the best scenes in the series.

Sandor & Arya at the inn had me on the edge of my seat.

Yes, that was an awesome fight. I especially love the father/daughter-like scene at the end where Sandor teaches Arya how to give a man mercy by killing him. That scene is perfect on so many levels.
