For anime, my newer good anime recommendations are: Baccano! and Darker Than Black
First, I highly recommend: Baccano!
A crime/fantasy anime with setting on USA at 1930s. This anime's strong point is on the unconventional storytelling. I could not stop watching this one, I watched all 13 episodes in one night.
Second, I watched first 2 episodes of Darker Than Black, and they were good. My friend, who recommend this anime, said that the anime's story is relatively consistenly good up till the end. The setting is in near future, where there are people with super-power.
