One of Interzone's editors, Andy Hedgecock, will also be there.

Alex, let us know as soon as you have dates for 2009 finalised, please. :)

Brian, Alex no longer works for Derby council so is not organising this year's event, though I understand he is still helping out. He now has a new job, with Solaris books I believe.

After some shifting of dates, the convention has now been confirmed for Saturday June 20th; I'm afraid I don't have any more details at this stage.

Oh, that might be better for me, the April one always ended up be a weekend I was busy. (Also too close to Eastercon for the purse)

Oh, crap - I've been looking forward to this for ages, but I never knew the date - suddenly 5 days notice is far too little. :(

I'd Google'd for alt-fiction, and the only information I found was the now disused blog so I thought there was nothing happening this year. :(

Or - is it still on? Roy posted here that it'll be back in 2010 instead?

Don't worry, Brian, you didn't miss it. The whole event was cancelled this year for a number of reasons, largely revolving around redundancies etc within the department, from what I could gather, but they're planning to return next year... So it's watch this space! :)

Will we get an Alt.Fiction for 2010?

I have to say, I enjoyed the intimacy of Alt-Fiction much more than Worldcon, Eastercon, or BFS. It will be sorely missed if there are no more. :(

Excellent! Good to see. :)

The £25 price tag is a bit steep, but it's still definitely one worth going to - will put this on my calendar. :)

ADDED: Waaaah!! June 12th - I'm on holiday then!! :(

You could go to watch Chelsea play for 90 minutes and pay £80, or Arsenal for £90, or the theatre for 2 hours and pay £15-£150, or attend a post-graduate day with me and pay £100.

I thought £25 was incredible value for what's on offer... How much are you paying for the holiday?

Oh, I don't denigrate the value - it was simply a reference to the last price which I had thought was around £15, so if so, is a bit of a hike.

However, even £25 is still real value - the ratio of authors to visitors is very high, which means it's hard not to find yourself casually chatting with published authors without worrying about getting through big crowds.

That's why it's my favourite on the convention scene - it has a real and valuable intimacy that is easily lost on other events through their numbers.

Wow - not heard of this con before, but it sounds like great fun. Will certainly try to get along, having just missed Eastercon. Thanks for the info. :)
