dragonqueen said:I found these books excellent! They're huge but I spend 2 solid weeks reading them and finished them all! The only annoying thing was he didn't tell us who the bead woman, forget her name~, really was...apart from that, good! I just finished a short story of his also, set before the series, when the rainforest was first populated. It convinced me I really should read some of his other books! Has anyone else read this series?
Robin is so cool coz she chucks all these secrate clues in for things happening in the book that arnt obvious. Like Fits is in the first instalment of the liveship traders but she doesnt just come out and say it. Its gotta be him though with a white lock at his temple and a scar down his cheak when wintrow gets bashed in that town with the temples.
I know I've mentioned this before in other threads and I also know that some disagree, but I dont think you need to read this series to be able to follow onto the Tawny Man series.
I didnt like this series, I found the sailing theme didnt grab me the way the other trilogies did. I read the first book then moved onto Tawny Man and didnt feel like I'd missed much.
I liked the idea of the magical ships, but the life of the sailors bored me.
I happened to read the three trilogies in the right order, not out of design, but just because that was the order in which we were able to buy the books. Reading them in that order did help me understand everything better, so yes, if you can read them in order, I agree that that would be best.
I also agree that these books were brilliant. Robin Hobb has an amazing amount of talent that comes out in these books. Shaman's Crossing, on the other hand, I'm not so fond of, and haven't read the ones after that in that series. But these were amazing.
I agree. Shaman's Crossing, book 1, lacked action in the beginning. I couldn't believe that a novel by Hobb could bore me, because I simply adored the Farseers...
Phew...glad I am not the only one here who feels this way.
I wrapped up the Farseer trilogy and am on the Live Ship trilogy, but I am having a hard time getting into it. No, I won't give up, but I certainly hope it picks up. I am really looking forward to getting to the Tawny Man trilogy.
Ha, but the Fool IS in the Live Ships series though. As some of you know. Who carved the new face for Paragon?
I've read them all. Right up to Renegade Mage. The Soldier Son trilogy flattened in the middle but came out okay in the end.
I've enjoyed all of her work. Even when she wrote under the name, Megan Lindholm.
