There are "no more great writers," V S Naipaul

However, if I felt I had to read Mr Naipaul's work (for whatever reason), I would do so and judge it by its own merits, not the morals** of its author.

I would do the same thing.

** - By the way, I doubt that he's ever been accused of any foot-fetishish-related auto-eroticism. let alone that of an obsessive nature.

I must figure out a way of finding if Mr Patrick French omitted from Naipaul's biography any episodes related to the above underlined subject. :)

But his fetish for putting his foot - both his feet actually - in the mouth when he opens it is too well-known to require any elucidation. Luckily (for himself and us), he doesn't seem to do it too often. I believe that at a dinner hosted in his honour once, he spoke only one and a half sentences during the two hours that it lasted.
