Any particular order?

I was recently given a collection of some eddings books from someone who picked them up at a garage sale. None of the series were complete, and I am just wondering? It looks like his books are all connected in some way. Is it important to read any particular series first, then continue reading in any particular order, or is it ok to read his books in any order?

Start with Pawn of Prophecy and read the 5 books of the Belgariad, then the Mallorean....they tend to be quite similar in composition, plotline, characters & etc.....

I enjoyed them immensely when I first read them.

With respect to the Elenium and Tamuli series, you should read the Elenium first to get acquainted with all the characters. They don't have anything to do with the Belgariad/Mallorean so you could read those first if you choose. Enjoy the books!

Thanks for all the info. I have started the Belgariad, and I do think it is wonderful. Very hard to put down. If this is any indication of Eddings, I'm in luck.

the first four series are very readable. In fact i've just finished re-reading the belgarid and malorean. after that he becomes very repetitve.

I just finished the Elenium, and really liked it. In fact I thought the books got better as they went along. I also enjoyed the way Eddings used light humor throughout the story to keep things fun.

I guess he follows the old adage, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." haha

I think he also forgot 'If it ain't broke and you keep on being irritating with it then we're going to break it on your head'.....

Let us know what you think of the books when you finish! I've read all 12 too many times to count.(the belgariad, mallorean and 2 prequels) However, i would not recommend his new stuff... I've read the first of the elder gods and it was hard to get through. I bought the second one just to finish the storya nd I havn't made it through the second chapter! anyone else having a hard time with them?

I haven't had as much time to read as I would normally like lately, but I am about 3/5 of the way through the Belgariad. It is a very enjoyable read. A little on the simple side, but the fun and giggles I have reading it more than make up for that. I'll place a full thoughts review when complete.

I loved the belgariad and the mallorean so much, I am reading them for the third time!!!
I found it difficult to get into The Elder Gods, but my love of all things eddings is pushing me on with them. Am waiting in anticipation for the next one to come out. Anyone know when?

There seems to be some negative feelings here about DE's later work? I'm a fan through and through and just enjoy his fantasy writing for what it is. All fantasy novels are the same - there's the inherant bad guys and there's the good guys who all seem to be affiliated with a god of some sort. Good wins out in the end, and along the way people that you like die. That's the long and short of it. Apart from this, treat each of his books (or series) as a new experience. Try to forget what you've read before and enjoy the new environments and characters. I really love the intricate way he works his stories, and manipulates his characters. I'm looking forward to the rest of the Elder Gods series having enjoyed the first 2 books.:)

If u have Belgarath the sorcerer and Polgara the sorceress, read them AFTER reading the Belgariad and the Malloreon. If you read those first, it could ruin the whole story.

Ooooops!
I read them before.

I'm on Magicians Gambit now.

Yes, do. It's a continuation of the Belgaraid story. It includes the same main characters with a few secondary characters brought to the front(Sadi to name one). It has a good plot line, and has a final final ending. Give it a read.
