Brienne's last word nomination thread

Did anyone ever suggest "Renly", "Dontos", "Beauty", or "Promise"?
 
After reading a few pages of the other thread, I nominate "sword". I don't think it's Arya or anything like that because if Martin had meant a name, he would have written that she called out a name (which still would have allowed for a great many possibilities), not a word.
 
Well, if he had a name in mind, the common phrase before one dies is last "words" not last "names". As for my vote, I didn't really think anything fit until I saw Stannis, I'm thinking that's the winner.

To be honest I hope she doesn't make it out of this, too many characters are coming back from death these days. Say no to zombies.
 
If there is a poll, someone needs to be appointed Keeper of the Votes. His/her sole task will be to remind himself every morning that the thread exists so that in a thousand years when Brienne's fate is revealed by the publication of the next-but-one book he can dig it out of the archives and inform our descendants which of us was right.
 
I would guess 'Winter' also. Or something very close to it.


Why would she cry out 'Stannis' or 'Arya'?
 
I believe the thought behind 'Stannis' is that Catelyn promised Brienne that she would release Brienne whenever Brienne decided to go after Stannis.

The rationale behind 'Arya' would be that Brienne is trying to communicate that she thinks she knows where Arya is located.
 
I just reread Brienne's last chapter of AFFC. Stoneheart offers here a choice "Take the sword and slay the Kingslayer, or be hanged for a betrayer. The sword or the noose... Choose." I nominate 'sword'.
 
Then it only seems right for me to nominate "noose", and so I do.

I must say that I think Wiggs has been busy. I thought he was making his poll last weekend. But hey, I'm not rushing him. This topic has been stewing for years, no need to hurry it up now.

Edit: Has anyone else ever thought of the GRRM forum here as Fleabottom? Arya saw that the pot shops there had stew that had been cooking for years and years. You know, it's like popping on the internet and saying "I'll have a bowl of brown, err, I mean Brienne's last word nomination thread, please."
 
Surely that's an even more appropriate term for GRRM's imagination (given that it's been stewing rather longer than anything here).


Oh, and thinking more about it, Brienne might say "noose", and it may well have a different impact on what's left of Cat than we might suppose. (Let's face it: we never know with GRRM.)
 
True, we never know, but why would Brienne choose death over life? She has unfinished business and oaths to keep. She has Stannis to deal with.She doesn't strike me as the romantic type who would rather die than slay Jaime. Unless she is now in love with him.

Although my first turkey worked out well.
