So, I've been on GRRMs' Not A BloG for some time and its really cool that he responds to his fans alot more than I expected. Though not about the books, but more about his hobbies and likes etc etc ....

Recently he and I have bantered back and forth about Pro Football. He is a Jets lover and myself a Steelers fan. So, because of his last reply to my post I have made a wager with him that if the Steelers beat the Cowboys he might be kind enough to not only give me another shout out on his blog, but maybe drop by this forum followed with a few lines.

Keep ur fingers crossed and u better root for the damn Steelers!!

Oh, hey Wert, is there any updates or advancement on Westeros Medieval 2 mod?? There is this one guy who made a mod for MTW 2 called Stainless Steel 6.0 and its by far incredible. Maybe they should hire him on to help?

Speaking as a Cowboys fan, I can only hope that a man of GRRM's worth wouldn't let a little thing like Dallas crushing the Steelers** stop him from giving us a few words. (And the Giants are going to the play-offs, whatever Dallas does or doesn't do.)

By the way, I've sent an email to GRRM (at georr@aol.com) right after the last Super Bowl. I thanked him for his stories... I congratulated him on the Giants success and I lamented the Bears lack of championships during the last twenty years... and told him he was high on my list of favorite authors like Tolkien. I also encouraged him to not to listen to any of the mean spirited talk regarding his writing. I told him he did not need to respond to my emails, but to spend time with his loved ones instead. But, Martin did respond. He said Tolkien was the Master or something to that effect. I can't believe he actually responded.

I sent him another email this summer... again encouraging him to live his life and not be a slave to petulant whiners. He sent back a formulaic email saying thanks for the support and to watch his Update page.

I hope Martin has a stress free Christmastime. Hopefully, he can move beyond the robbery and put aside the pressures from his publisher and us.

They asked him (the head of the team, there's dozens of people who made SS). He said no, unfortunately. Stainless Steel is constantly being updated and he had no time to get away from it.

The mod is on hiatus until the New Year as the mod-makers are pretty busy. They need a coder and another skinner to really speed things along. Personally, I'm happy we have the release we have at the moment. So many mods remain incomplete pipe-dreams (like the very promising WoT mod for Rome) it's great to actually have something we can play.

I'm also a Wisconsin Badgers fan.

Many years ago, I was watching a game with a lady I had been seeing for awhile, she wasn't familiar with football.

The Badgers were wearing their white uniforms.

She looked at me sometime near the beginning of the second quarter and asked me, no joke, "Why do they wear white? The uniforms just get so dirty!"

She was a UW Madison PHD student in German Linguistics.

I thought she was quoting Valley Girl.

She wasn't.

It was the beginning of the end.

To continue the football discussion, of which Mr. Martin would find of interest I'm sure...

As a Notre Dame fan, I was disappointed we were never able to steal Barry Alvarez from Wisconsin. We should've broke the bank for him when Holz left. The guy won three Rose Bowls for the Badgers. In an age when the Badgers were considered a perpetual has been, he won three Rose Bowls and led Wisconsin to top ten finishes. The Badgers never even won one with Crazylegs or the Horse! One of those wins was without Great Dayne...

I can imagine the comparisons made between Irish fans and the people who are loudest in their lament over the slower than desired progress with ADWD. I long for the heady days of beating more Big 10 teams every year than the Badgers, the Hoosiers, Huskies, and Gophers. We're going to a bowl this year at 6-6... that's disgraceful. If we don't have double digit wins, we should stay home instead of going to the "Dancing With The Stars/Starbucks/www.jennycraig.com Bowl"... We are now the quintessential has beens. I think I'm gonna cry.
