Any Writers Groups in North Wales??

The initial meeting - a social informal gathering - will be in the bar of the Holiday Inn at the roundabout junction of the A55 / A483 known locally as the Posthouse Roundabout. Its just south of Chester. 8pm Wednesday May 9th 2012. All writers of SFF are welcome.

Unfortunately I'm on holiday that week so won't be able to make the meet up. I am still interested in getting involved though!

That's a shame, but we'll be sure to keep you informed of any future meets.
On the other hand, perhaps if you tell us where you are on holiday we could all meet up there? I wouldn't mind a trip somewhere sunny and warm. How about Cyprus or Gozo?

Sorry Geoff it's Pembrokeshire. Still hoping for some sun though!

Just a reminder and nudge to any writers or would-be writers of SF or F within range to come to our informal chat at the Holiday Inn bar just south of Chester on Wrexham Road near the Posthouse roundabout Post code CH4 9DL
Wednesday 9th May 2012 8pm onwards

I'll be in the bar with laptop and SF magazine.

Geoff

See you there Geoff, I will be in jeans and blue jacket and glasses.
Hope to be there a about 8.30 but will try to be earlier

We had a useful discussion on writing SFF, critiquing each other, etc. We are thinking of making the next meeting in Wrexham at the Ramada Plaza, LL13 7YH. Likely to be a Wednesday evening in June. Actual day open to offers and suggestions from others who would like to attend. How about it?
Geoff

The place is very easy to find just off the A483 Dual carriageway and right by Wrexham hospital.

Hi Guys, I can see that the last time anyone posted about this was over a year ago but i'm currently looking for a fantasy writing group and wondered if this one took off at all? If so, where and when do you meet and do you have room for another aspiring fantasy writer?

Always good to see something positive being organised. I'll have to try it with Bristolians at some point!

Sadly, the group failed to materialise. I mostly write SF although a fantasy novel of mine is stalking publishers, and I have a handful of fantasy shorts published.
The sequel to my ARIA: Left Luggage was published in paperback and ebook last month. Please give it a go if you want to check out my style.
Back to a writer's group though. I am happy to have another meeting if anyone will turn up!

Just to let those interested know that a science fiction and fantasy writers' group have (at last - yeay) started in Chester this year. The next meeting will be held at 5.30 in the room at the top of the stairs at Chester Library on the 5th December and after that the first Thursday of each month at 5.30pm. It is run by Angela Kirkland email anewgizzy AT hotmail DOT com but you'd be welcome just to turn up. We set a monthly writing assignment trying to aim at no more than 2,500 words with this month's being the topic of demons.

Martin Perry - I was going to let you know but I've lost your contact details - sorry.

Meanwhile for me I've sent the third and final volume of my ARIA Trilogy to the publishers. Their editor will remove most of my commas, etc, and their proofreader will put them back. So it goes - haha. Click on my blog

for promo stuff if you're interested.

Happy writing

Not been on the site for a while

Geoff - Sent you a mail

Still interested in a Wrexham or Chester club but may struggle to
get to Chester for 5.30

I can see it's been a couple of years since there was any activity here, but on the off chance something came of this, I'm in Ruabon, looking for a writing group, preferably one with a speculative fiction bent. Is a group going? Do you have room for one more SFF nut with writing intentions?

Ironic because since the last message there was a Fantasy writers group in Chester but that folded after a year though there remains a facebook group for it. I believe there is a gothic writers group that meet in Upton, Chester called Raven. This is their fb page Raven Manor Writing Group | Facebook
To mark the Chester Literary Festival there is a free writing event held by the all-genre Chester writers' group
Gothic: with Chester Writers %%
Most of my writing is hard SF or at least hardish and my horror tends to lack the blood and gore expected by many. So my critique group remains with the British Science Fiction Association (BSFA), which has Orbiter crit groups to suit novel length and short stories. Just cos they're BSFA doesn't mean they turn away stories of horror, fantasy, etc - all grist to the writing mill.
Best of luck trying to find a local SF writing group.
As a writer I don't have much time for reading but I'm obliged to read at least one SFF book a month to continue trolling along to the excellent SFF book group in Chester library - usually the 3rd Saturday in the library. Here's its fb page

if you are on fb you could befriend me at http://www.facebook.com/geoffnelder

Cheers
