Tisk tisk tisk. Now thats just wrong :p

Finished In Amundsen's Tent by John Martin Leahy today

Moving onto the first chapter of Orientalism, and also this week (da da da) Othello. Othello, people! I freaking love this play; I've been waiting for ages for it to finally pop up on the course. I can read it any time, of course, but I love studying it just as much.

Just finished Hyperion by Dan Simmons. Why did no-one tell me about this one earlier! It's great!
Now starting Iain M Banks Matter.

Yes, sadly only 2 books to date with Sea Beggars and they're both good. At least Monarchies is a complete series and don't forget The Ten Thousand, stand-alone novel Conn, very good military fantasy I've been told although I've not had proper time to go through it myself yet.

Cheers...

You are saying the series dont end with the two books ? He is gonna write more in the future ? Or he didnt finish the series cause of publishing issue ?

I thought it was a complete series thats why i got the book.

Unfrotunately there was contractual issues with Sea Beggars but I believe another publisher has picked up the rights and he will continue the series. So yeh sorry Conn, that series is incomplete which is why I suggested the stand-alone or Monarchies series. Looking on the bright side you'll be able to get both of those latter items and read them as complete stories. Also Sea Beggars whilst a series to some extent has each novel as a self-contained story. So not all bad news and I bet you're still glad of discovering Kearney....:)

Cheers....

Its not a real problem but now that i have started the series i must read both books. I can only hope he can finish it later. Not because i enjoyed the first book which i did but because i would like to see how Rol's story ends it.

I'm glad i discovered him. He can tell an epic story starting with the young hero growing up without it feeling generic.

He reminds me of a Gemmell who wrote in a more epic feel and not as fast paced heroic fantasy.

My only problem with Paul Kearney is deciding if im gonna read The Ten Thousand or Monarchies series :)

I expect you'll enjoy both Conn. I haven't actually read ten thousand yet although I have it on the shelf, so you may beat me to it....;)

We did but you weren't listening/online!....;)
Thats no excuse! For books like that you could have all carried on until everyone had heard!

The Ten Thousand is a good book, much enjoyed it. Finshed it about a month ago ;)

Finished Last Argument of Kings last night, really enjoyed the series. Now moving on with either:

Winterbirth - Ruckley
Ship of Magic - Hobb
King's Dragon - Elliott

decisions, decisions....

just read Ship of Magic and it was great

Busy week for me. I read 3 books:

Watchmen
Kingdom Come
Trouble Is My Business- Raymond Chandler

The first two are the first graphic novels I ever read. They were both pretty good, but I don't think the graphic novel thing is really my style. The story for Watchmen was fascinating, if a bit bloated and cliched at times. The artwork for Kingdom Come was amazing

The Raymond Chandler was... well, it's Chandler, you know it was brilliant! :)

Now I'm on to reading Name of the Wind finally. It's been on my shelf for ages and it's about time it got some love.

I decided to postpone finishing Tad Williams' MST until after my holiday break. I'm taking Dune and Elantris with me to Morocco, then Tad is going down! I'd read him over break, but those last 2 books are too heavy for me to bother with them on the plane, hehe. I also refuse to start Robin Hobb's Farseer series until I've finished that trilogy.

Finished Butcher's Backup. It just whetted my appetite for more Dresden. (sigh )

Now reading Carl Hiassen's Sick Puppy. An author who makes the most horrible things funny.

These are two of my favorite comics. If you enjoyed them, I think you should continue trying more comics. There are a lot of interesting fantasy/horror/science fiction comics around.

Well completing Vandermeer's City Of Saints and Madmen....very good on the re-read/completion if you like your fantasy dark and erudite.
