Trudi Canavan

Well, I finally got around to picking up the second book in the Black Magician Trilogy, The Novice. Entertaining but drawn out and just downright annoying in parts.

The constant harrassing of the main character/novice by the other novices was so frustrating I wanted to throw the book out the window (but didn't because it's an audible book and I can't lift my car). Did nearly 2/3 of the book really need to be devoted to these scenes? This book could easily have been half the length.

Needless to say, I will not be buying the third book in the trilogy.

I'm very new to reading as a hobby in general and thoroughly enjoyed Trudi Canvans Black Magician Trilogy and the Age of the Five Trilogy. I found myself gripped to the story and characters and I'm quite looking forward to seeing future works from this author.

I enjoyed The Black Magician trilogy a lot. Admittedly the first one was a bit slow (too much time was spent on her fleeing from the guild when we knew from the start that she'd join it in the end), but it improved quite a bit in the following books. Admittedly The Novice reminded me a bit too much of the early Harry Potter books, Sonea was isolated from her peers and bullied for much of the book...

Did you know Trudi got a seven-figure deal for The Magician's Apprentice and another trilogy?

A sweet deal...
