Do you listen to music when reading ASOIAF?

And if so what kind of music? Or am I just crazy? I remember bringing this up to friends and they just looked at me funny. But I find listening to music while reading an epic masterpiece can really enhance the mood. I tend to listen to bands heavy on instrumentals with which a kind of background music can be applied, like Tool, Pink Floyd or Radiohead. When I read a Game of Thrones I listened to a CD by the Gorillaz called Demon Days which in many ways mirrored the Starks. It was filled with a lot of somber, moody, and ominous vibes which made passages such as Ned sitting in the Godswood, cleaning the blood off his sword all the more powerful. Or especially the Tower of Joy, probably my favorite passage ever written.

TOOL ROCKS!!!!!!!

But to answer you question no don't BAZZA but i do think of ASOIAF alot when i listen to bands like what you mentioned. Believe it or not Prodigy, Pendulum and Muse also get me thinkin bout this awesomely epic series.

I listen to the books rather than read them, and usually while I'm walking or traveling, so the opportunity to listen to music usually isn't there. Just off the top of my head, Emerson, Lake and Palmer's "Pictures at an Exhibition" might work. I could see certain Metallica tracks working for certain POVs. Kitaro's Silk Road, almost anything by Gerge Winston, and Tangarine Dream are all possibilities.

Interesting post

I do not listen to music while reading anymore. But when I was fourteen, I listened to Styx's Paradise Theatre over and over while I read Anne McCaffrey's first five Pern novels. I can't think of F'lar and Lessa without hearing Dennis DeYoung singing "Nothing Ever Goes As Planned", nor can I hear Tommy Shaw's "Too Much Time On My Hands" without seeing F'nor banished to the Southern Continent, nor can I listen to JY's "Snowblind" without picturing dragonriders battling threadfall. Hey, I was fourteen.

I tend to prefer Celtic - relaxation music - mostly I stick to instromental and avoid vocals unless they are not english (otherwise the words distract me).
Sometimes I like a big firy bit of music (like the LoTR or POTC) especailly when a story is getting some action in it.

I also read sometimes in silence too - though often I like something in the background - rain fall is nice

Generally speaking I listen to music while reading anything, not just ASOIAF. I have to listen to instrumental music, if there are words I tend to sing along instead of paying attention to what I'm reading. Generally I have movie soundtracks playing in the background...Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, LOTR, Forrest Gump, Braveheart, etc.

I remember commercials in the Spring of '83 that touted Michael Bolton as the next Hard Rock Hero.

I dont listen to music, but when I first started reading ASOIAF I would read ouside on our back varanda. The kurrawongs would always call in the morning. I also lived near the beach, so now when I read the books I think of crashing waves and the calls of birds. Its almost like a nature CD in my head. There's worse things to think about I guess.

I don't really listen to music while I read ASoIaF, but there's a lot of music that comes to mind when I read them. For instance, with AGoT, it reminds me of "The Game" by Disturbed as well as "Legacy of Kings" by HammerFall. Then, reading ACoK, it reminds me of "Destiny" by Stratovarius. Now this is not to the exclusion to many other songs, but there's a lot of songs by HammerFall and Stratovarius that really fit in the mood of ASoIaF.

Heh... what comes to mind right now, for instance, is Eaglehart by Stratovarius. It perfectly fits how SweetRobin wants to be. He wants to be the Winged Knight, with the "eagle heart," who can fly over the sorrow and pain.

I do listen to music while reading ASOIAF. The album that I associate with ASOIAF would have to be writers block by Peter Bjorn and John. Pink Floyd or Radiohead would also be good choices. For every series of books I read there's always a connected song or album.

In a more general sense I like to have music as a background when I read. For me as I find it conducive to good literature, I like to listen to Gregorian chant music or classical music e.g. the "music for booklovers" CDs.

Often if I'm online e.g. this forum, I have like right now, a 'best of' mix of classical music playing off Win Media player OR when I'm doing work.

If I'm walking around the city book buying then it will be more foreground music like catchy music, popular music etc...

I have the attention span of a gnat, so I don't listen to music while I'm reading... has to be one or the other. I really annoyed myself one day by thinking, "Yeah, Sansa would probably dig early HIM" and then throwing a tiny temper tantrum because I accidentally related my favorite band to my least favorite character.
