Vampire/Zombie books

Thankyou for the list. It is one of the biggest compilation of Zombie books that I've seen.

I noticed that there was a section for on-line ebooks (free/some-not-so-free).

Man, I read through all three pages to see if anyone had mentioned Brian Keene's 'The Rising', and there it was, almost at the end...Great zombie novel, and the sequel was pretty good, too.

Although it's not necessarily the right format for this forum, 'The Walking Dead', a comic series by Robert Kirkman, is excellent. Kirkman tells a great story, and his character development is very good. Even if you're not a regular comic reader, I recommend picking it up if you're looking for a good zombie story. Collected editions are available, so you can read large chunks of the series at one sitting.

Zombie novels: has anyone mentioned Brian Keene’s novel The Rising? It won a Bram Stoker Award and virtually spawned the recent interest in zombies. Or what about Permuted Press’ envelope-pushing anthology, The Undead?

You should check out the The Ultimate Zombie Book List, which lists hundreds of zombie books, along with reviews, ratings, and ordering information: do a Google search to find it, since I can't post links yet :)

I was curious about The Ultimate Zombie Book, might have to pick that one up. I love zombies, l really liked the movie 28 Days later.

I really like the Walking Dead series. We have them in our adult graphic novel collection at my library, and I have read all of them.

I'm glad dsmith mentioned that Walking Dead is an adult series. A lot of people, not necessarily on this forum, see 'comic' and think 'Archie and Jughead', and a lot of what's published now is aimed at a mature audience.

The newest Sookie Stackhouse book by Charlaine Harris comes out tomorrow! (May 1). yay!

I cannot recommend any zombie novels, sorry
vampire novels, I love.

The Historian : Elizabeth Kostova (already mentioned but its a good book worth mentioning again)
Fevre Dream: George R R Martin (probably my favorite vampire novel
and
this one I have not read YET (I have a copy ordered expect it this week)
Vampyrrhic: Simon Clark (this is suposed to be a very good book, so I am looking forward to reading it.

I cannot comment on Anne Rices's novels: Interview with a Vampire and the like, I supose I should give them a try but I blame Tom Cruise for putting me off them!!!

If you are uncomfortable with homosexuality at all, don't read Anne Rice. The woman is obsessed with male homosexuality. Obsessed.

Thanks for the warning, cannot say it bothers me as long as there is a decent story in there somewhere to. No I can see why Tom Cruise wanted to be in the movie!!!

Well, she is literally obsessed. Many times the scenes aren't necessary at all. She wrote erotic fiction under a pseudonym as well. I think she just day dreams about male homoeroticism all day, and it makes her a crappy writer.

I really liked Rising. Very creepy and scary. I wrote in another thread about getting a call from my brother while he was reading it. He put the book in his freezer at night because it spooked him so bad. :D

There is a BBC version of I am Legend I listened to on my dap and it was fantastic. I travel alot and prefer audiobooks to music.

World War Z has a full cast in audiobook form - Rob Reiner, Alan Alda, and a bunch of other actors. That book lends itself to audio nicely as it's done in interview form.

Let's hope she doesn't incorporate that into her new series. I'm not Christian, but I can foresee a few eyebrows being raised at a homosexual Jesus.

That is by no means a new idea, however... it's been batted around for a very, very long time....

Are there a good Vamp book with a story like Underworld?

I liked the hole werewolf vs vamp thing.

Also looking for a good vamp story set in any era but without Dracula, i am alittle sick of him.

Hmmm. Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu's "Carmilla" is a good one -- influenced Stoker, actually. The Beetle, by Richard Marsh. You might look at a book called The Dracula Book of Great Vampire Stories:

WorldCat: The Dracula book of great vampire stories

The Keep, by F. Paul Wilson -- not a stereotyped vampire, but a good vampire theme, nonetheless. Brian Lumley's Necroscope and, especially, Vamphyri have some very interesting aspects, despite some serious flaws. (They're quick, easy reads, but they are very uneven. However, his depiction of the vampires is quite memorable, and some of the vampiric characters are rather memorable.)

Sounds good thanks.

Any Blade like stories? I forgot to ask. I mean not the hole superhero thing but a sort of a daywalker walking around in our time.

I havent read a vamp book before so i have to ask.
