Kickass standalone fantasy adventure?

The Magic Of Recluce is a really good book you would like.

If you haven't read it already, try Peter V. Brett's The Painted Man. The first in a trilogy, I was spellbound by this book. I have the second book, The Desert Spear, in my trolley and can't wait to get my grubby little paws on it.

The Drawing of the Dark & On Stranger Tides by Tim Powers , The War of The Flowers by Tad Williams are my fav fantasy adventure stand alone.

To Ride Hell's Chasm by Janny Wurts is my personal favourite kick-ass standalone. Nice, big beefy book, a lot of intrigue, distinct characters, and then halfway through the intrigue shifts into a high-gear thriller until almost the last page. All in one book.

Get that book grubby I tell ya, it's almost as good if not better than TPM.

I'd like to second Child of an Ancient City by Tad Willians and Nina Kiriki Hoffman. Others I would suggest are:
Illustrated Man by Ray Bradbury,
Last Dragon by J.M. McDermott,
To Reign In Hell by Steven Brust,
Bridge of Birds by Barry Hughart,
Thomas the Rhymer by Ellen Kushner,
Fire & Hemlock by Dianna Wynne Jones,
Dreamsnake by Vonda McIntyre.

Errr I'll stop now.
