April's Fools and what they're reading.

Kelpie: The Light Ages is one of the best new spec-fic novels I've read in thelast couple of years, and I think you'll especialy appreciate the prose style. Let us know how it goes and feel free to report on Dickensian parallels. ;)

RIght now, alternating between Disch's The Genocides and The Anarchistic Colossus by AE van Vogt.

Finished the Robert Silverberg's anthology. Very interesting how an author style can change through time, and how editors can influence it. Quite a good glimpse on SFF publishing and writers little world in the 50s-60s.

Currently reading Le Roi d'août (King of August) by Michel Pagel. An interesting mix between fantasy and historical fiction based on the live of medieval King of France Philippe II. With several UK kings and nobles in the pages, such as a personnal favorite of mine Richard Lionheart.

Yes, I am enjoying MacLeod's prose style. As for Dickensian influences, I noticed quiet a bit of Great Expectations early on, and something of the spirit of Hard Times and Our Mutual Friend as the story progresses. Also the way he makes London and Bracebridge each so vivid, they become characters in the story as well as settings.
