At the Gates of Darkness UK/AU/NZ cover

Interesting read, but one of his shorter stories. It was good, but not his best and I'm just not feeling his characters any more. Which is a shame.

Hard cover in Waterstones was 18 quid with four quid off, I just couldn't part with that much money for a Fiest book, not anymore, espscially glad that i didn't get it if its a short book.
I thought that this book was the conclussion of the Pug/Mad God etc story line. Am I wrong in this? I was hoping that this was the end and that he was off to pastures new, somwhere I thought I heard that after this book he was releasing two more or so trilogies, one about the Valheru and another about something else.
Am I going insane? probably ;)

I got the book for £9.48 off Amazon; still on for that price I think at the moment

I bought the book on thursday, finished it saturday morning. It is a short book, but I still thought it gave some good insight into the back story behind the demons of the 5th circle.

However, seeing that the Demonwar was supposed to be the fourth of the 5 riftwars, it wasn't really much of a war. A couple of skirmishes really.

The series did just feel like a lead in into the final of the 5 Riftwars, which I have heard is either going to be the Godswar or the Chaoswar.
My guess it will involve a war against the Dread (from the void).

Agree with the insight into demon realm but overall it felt like 'filler'.
I don't think it was up to the usual standard and some of the transitions were hamfisted and almost low budget TV scriptish - like someone saying "I wonder what Bob & Jane are doing" then cut to scene Bob & Jane.
Don't get me wrong, I've enjoyed the story arc from Magician onward, but this installment didn't feel like R.E.F at all - but then after the astronomical feats achieved in the conclusion to the Darkwar saga I may have set my expectations too high...
After a short - basically brigding - piece of work I hope the next installment isn't a year away.
