And finally, I have to mention the final volume of Abercrombie's debut trilogy, i.e. The Last Argument of Kings. As well as being an excellent read in itself, there was much satisfactory tying up of things, including stuff the reader may not have even noticed needed tying. The pace increases, with plenty of fighting (battles and one-to-one) and more intrigue than one can wave a stick at. And plenty of black humour. As for the main ending: I won't say too much, but it's more than fitting for this fine trilogy of light and (mostly) shade. (I hope that doesn't spoil things for future readers.)
