Hi JAA, thanks for your (first!) post, and suggestions. I don't think the situation is presented in the novel as being analagous to domestic abuse. Char A is acting from an ultimately noble cause, but is prepared to cut moral corners. I don't mind the reader having a negative reaction to him - C certainly does, and she's a main character (B is more ambivalent; in a way he becomes a victim who excuses his abuser, something that annoys C no end).
I suppose A is trying to open their minds through the process of their realities breaking and then being reconstructed. But I don't know how much detail I'll want to go into, in the end. At the moment it's a backstory element.
