Catelyn recast in HBO series?

Brian's right: TV is a medium of illusion (which is quite handy when you have to conjure up, for instance, a wall hundreds of feet high and hundreds of miles long).

And the real proof of the pudding will be whether we believe she is Cat, not whether she fits our preconceptions of how Cat should look. None of us will know that until next year.

thx, most seem like reasonable casting.
Ned, needs to lose a bit of weight for a sterner, tighter face.
Otherwise he seems okay.

Yes, the lean, Northern look isn't quite there, but he's a fine actor so I'd guess he'll do fine with that. Remember what Robert De Niro did with Ragin Bull. Losing wight on one's face may be tougher though.

Sean Bean as Ned is a brilliant cast choice. He's proven acting ability at dying.

But was he head (though not shoulders) above other candidates for the part?

It strikes me that Sean Bean will bring (and will be expected by at least some of the viewing public to bring) a certain down-to-earth grittiness to the part, helping to raise people's expectations of what to expect with regard to realism.

And perhaps his presence will provide extra forewarning to those in the UK who think fantasy means shows such as Merlin and Doctor Who.
