Althugh the movie was lousy, I really enjoyed Steven King's Cell.

I agree about The Mist!. I am currently reading Sarah, by JT Leroy, just started it. and it seems interesting enough. I recently have been checking out books based in India and written by Indian authors, can't recall names right now, but I highly recommend the sub-genre.
