Arsten, good trivia. I don't think of Hodor serving as Bran's mount as mean. Hodor is simple minded, but he's a gentle soul with a helpful spirit. Hodor does not serve out of obligation, he serves from a desire to help. He likes hodoring and watching, but he likes likes being a stable boy. I think it cheers his heart to know that he's a benefit to the Starks and not a burden. Hodor literally carried his own weight around Winterfell. I'm of the opinion that if Hodor was of sound mind, then he'd volunteer to carry Bran.
Also, I believe that in ADWD, when Bran uses Hodor's body to go spelunking, that Bran's urge to profess his love for Meera stems from Hodor. If that were so, wouldn't Bran have thought it at other times in his POV? Why does he all of a sudden think this while in Hodor's body?
Small Paul is also a large, large man. He carried Sam for a while because Sam was his sworn brother.
I, myself, am six and a half feet tall... nowhere near Hodor, Paul, or Gregor... and I've always seen it as my God given gift to assist physically when I can. I see it as a blessing to assist my family when I can. When my dad needs boxes moved, when my step mom needs the Christmas tree set up, when my brother in-law needs help painting... And I don't want to bully anyone or intimidate them with my size, unless I'm playing basketball... or they're bullying someone else.
Being tall is great at work... of course, I lalways make my co-workers call me Aragorn or at least confess that they're hobbits before I help them.
