Well i take it, it's one of the cities in essos.
The most important cities in times past where Valyria, Volantis and Old Ghis.
It wasn't Valyria and Old ghis both of which are more or less gona at this point in time.
Volantis however still exists. And you could say they are a shadow of their former self, considering they where Valyria's first colony and considered themselves their heir and rightful rulers of the world after the doom. If Volantis is right, i've got no idea bout the lost and blind part though.

argh Srylanna you spoiler, i was gonna get there, i was working my way through the cities of Essos. Whilst reading up on the cities i actually skipped Lorath cause in my mind, i had connected shadow with former glory. I think it would have taken me at least 5 more tries before figuring it out. I know my next guess (Astapor - cause of it's fall) was gonna be wrong. Great question imo, once we knew it was a city.

Dear Trivia Posters....

I'd like to discuss the using of A World of Ice and Fire for trivia. I, for one, tend to just skip any trivia featuring information solely found in AWOIAF. I purchased the book for myself as an early Christmas present. I like to peruse it. I find it very interesting, but I don't really consider it source material. It is one giant POV. The information comes from Maester Yandel, who admittedly brings a pro-Baratheon bias to his presentation. AWOIAF is THE reference, but it does not form part of GRRM's narrative.

I'm not here to single out Narky... and Lord knows you are all patient with me whenever I botch my posted trivia. (My erroneous trivia posts are probably now into double digits.) But I feel that choosing trivia available only in AWOIAF severely limits participation. (As does incorrect trivia, admittedly.) My guess is that participants have all either just read ASOIAF for the first time or are on their third (or more) re-read... i.e. people very enthusiastic or very familiar with the story. How many of us are going to read AWOIAF cover to cover three or more times in order to really familiarize ourselves with the details of religion in the Age of Heroes, the exact size of Baelor the Blessed's toes and where to find Queen Alysanne's favorite color.

I don't know how much of that information regarding Lorath is in AGOT, ACOK, ASOS, AFFC, ADWD, The Hedge Knight, The Sworn Sword, or The Mystery Knight.... mayhaps all of it. Mayhaps I just do not remember this info.

I am not the OP of this thread. I am not a mod. I just want to let you know how I feel and to open this to discussion. Maybe I'm the only one who feels this way... and if so, then you guys proceed ahead and enjoy and I'll join in whenever I know one.

@Baoz I think it is mostly in WOIAF and some additional materials by Martin dating before WOIAF. However, my issue here is, it doesn't really apply to Lorath itself and there are many such locations that actually do fit one way or another. :/

I tend to not think where I got the info, but I do try to make it be at least partially from the original series.
