re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- August & September

Is that a clue to SF's or your own, PC??! That's what I thought the "small bite" referred to in hers, but now I'm not sure. (The "disguise" bit is throwing me -- is that a clue?)

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- August & September

Oooooooooh! I think the penny's just dropped. (Regarding SF's not PC's!)

I now have MC Hammer in my head though.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- August & September

I thought I got StormFeather's one, but not sure I do now!

And when you first responded I had hoped that I'd passed the Mouse Test.;) I'm sure that you did get it though

TJ - the 'disguise' is part of it . . . .

Edit - MC Hammer, Mouse? Not sure where that's coming from!

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- August & September

It's what PC said about flipping the words of Chris's title. I'm not completely loopers, honest! :D

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- August & September

On a related note - I enjoyed TJ's story. He steals time(pieces) and won't serve any time because he's going to be executed!

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- August & September

I've had one person PM me with their theory on it, and they are correct - their identity shall remain obfuscated unless they decide to step forth willingly.

Oh, ok--I'm sure that being obfuscated would make me claustrophobic anyway. :D

I just didn't want to say anything where it would spoil it for anyone else.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- August & September

Maybe I've gone over-crazy with the hidden stuff this time. Perhaps I was trying to be too clever.

In fact, maybe the hidden stuff is unnecessary! It's probably easy to see what the story's about, anyway. But there's something hidden nonetheless, which makes it clear why it's SFF. Which you'd probably already have realised anyway. I dunno.

Also, hopefully people spot (without googling!) the reference which make me think of the idea in the first place.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- August & September

I'm pretty sure I've got Stormy's (clever little trick, I saw part of it the first time and just thought you were being cute). I think I get PC's as I look back at the first of the hints.
Which would make it both a saying and a song lyric (also a title). But Hoopy's got me thus far.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- August & September

Oh, crikey. Now Hoopy's has eluded me. Back to the board.

Parson, thanks for the clues, but they ain't helping...

On a related note - I enjoyed TJ's story. He steals time(pieces) and won't serve any time because he's going to be executed!
That's one of the first time-thieves, three are mentioned. Then there's the second lot.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- August & September

Oh, er, I thought mine might be obvious, but I guess it always seems that way to the person who writes it.

If you have got an inkling what it's about, think about that to get the hidden thing.

If you don't know what it's about, think of the reference, where it comes from (particularly whereabouts in the source it comes from).

In fact, the last line might give a couple of clues. And the title.

See, I told ya I'd been far too convoluted!

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- August & September

I'm confuzzled.

I don't get The Judge's one either now.

Is it just me or is there more first person VPs this time around? Mine is again and I've just tried to alter it not to be, but it still has ended up kinda first person. Only now it's a tad more sinister.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- August & September

It finally occurred to me that mine might not be considered within genre — you see what time can do to a once keen mind, making it slow, slow, slow to process an idea — although the original story (not Shakespeare's play) is part of the mythical history of Britain.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- August & September

Mouse, my story itself is very simple (unlike some I could mention where I am still wrestling with clues... grrrr...). But inside the story are some plays on words, that's all. Well, plays on a word.

Teresa, I'm happy to accept the myth of Lear as fantasy. Though frankly my brain obviously isn't up to speed, so perhaps that's not all the reassurance you might like to have!

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- August & September

Well... with the calibre of stories here i'm certainly not winning this month!! ah well, next month it is!!

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- August & September

Lear is certainly fantasy. A king with 3 daughters..only one who truly loves him but he finds this hard to recognise - very much like the 'more than salt' fairytale I recall so fondly from childhood.

The ravages that time have on a good wise king is a warning to us all. It's always nice to see Shakespeare represented on the forum.

One of my favorite fairy tales, too, now that you mention it.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- August & September

And I thought I was clever with mine, having 3 hidden meaning in mine. Maybe it was too obvious; maybe it’s just me being slow. I still don’t get PC’s even after I cheated and everything.

re: Discussing the Writing Challenges -- August & September

My first post of my story had (56) written at the end of one line, which I quickly edited out! I do rely on the old methods...

URSA!!! 2 posts to go to 6,000. May I be the first to congratulate you!

ps: Karn, I voted for you in the previous month, thought it was a really well-rounded story!

Really? "Having You For Dinner" was a....well-rounded story?

*Checks to see if the sky is raining stones of fire and four horsemen ride through the fields*

Hmm. I highly doubt mine will such again have met such a standard. I was pressed for time this month, you know. ;)
