Separated by Time

She called it an “ipod”, it was a strange thing, yet he kept it for he asked him to.

Time had separated them, yet it was their only hope in seeing each other again.

“She will come back, she promised,” he muttered.
Gently, he slid the thing in his pocket and closed his eyes for a moment. Hoping. Praying.

Finally, he stood up and grabbed his sword, ready to face the battle awaiting him.

And here's my entry.

The Hyderabad Groom

I waited years on the shaadi line for a woman.
Magician chose me.
We walked to the shore.

He said, “Men must be extraordinary to...”

“Take my life; make her beautiful.”

Lit needles went in.

***
On the longest beach, I found her.
At sunrise, we ran across the world.
We loved, lived and died in a moment.

***
I woke again on the shore.

Magician asked, “Understand?”

I vowed not to waste another lifetime waiting.

Tick Tock

"What do you think about it?"
"About what"
"It's been over the cranial cyber feed all morning", he sighed.
"About the cyborg, a HybriTech 238 I think... and a human, convicted of conspiracy to murder. They gave the human 10 years, and the cyborg 500, based on percentage of expected life span. All the cyborgs are protesting it."
"I can't be bothered with that. They're playing 4 hours of my show in the Holo-Immerser tonight!"

On the dangers of Timegates and a classical education
(With thanks and apologies to Petronius Arbiter)

'Here it is, Chrissy!' Stan said. 'In this Roman text!'

Chrissy read--
A Craftsman came unto Caesar with an unbreakable glass goblet. Caesar was impressed.

'See?' Stan asked. 'That's me! I'm off through the Timegate! GOLD!'
He leaped through the Timegate with a plastic cup.

Chrissy read on--
Caesar asked; 'Does anyone else know your technique?' The Craftsman replied no. Caesar had him beheaded; for if the secret leaked, gold would be as dirt.

I am the past and the future?

Sintara was the first in a long line of deathstalkers.

First?

Ah, yes. The ancient calling chose it's own family regardless of blood, creed, time or space.

She still struggled with the concept herself when she thought about it too much.

In not so long... Or in very long, depending on how one looked at it, Sintara would be fighting alongside her distant relatives, the future deathstalkers.

Who themselves would be fighting in their past.

Don't be promiscuous with a witch's love.
The siren melody could be heard across town. Captivated men were drawn in from every direction.
She stood in a dark alley. Draped gowns covered the wrath of age's indiscriminate hand.
She touched their cheeks, slowly moving along their jaw. Light flashed as each man experienced heaven, until their bodies shrivelled and collapsed.
Thier time was stolen. Each suffered the same fate.
She left the pile of mummies. Young . Beautiful. Unhappy. Eternally alone.

Not sure I can get any more cliches into only 75 words. Dang, this is hard.

Old Soldier
Boom…

The drum no longer cues glory for him, only carnage. His mind is already replacing the sweat, leather, and sod in his nostrils with fear, death, and gore. What used to be the knife-edged clarity of concentration has become the muddy blur of disdain.

When did the delicious thrill of unsheathing a sword become the hissing forewarning of the serpent? No heroes will be born here today, only widows and orphans.

Boom…

Evolution

To go forwards you must first understand what’s behind.

Our minds expanded. Our eyes opened to the impossible, to limitless technological feats.
We spoke without speaking. We raced into the universe, lived on ship cities that swam the glittering ocean of stars…

We looked to the future until we forgot our past.

We conquered Time. Visited our abandoned home.

‘Aliens!’ they cried with strange voices.

Children were we, so primitive.

Begin the dissection.

KARYA

You and I, both saplings slender,
in the sun together lie.
Winter comes, and bleak December’s
storms I thole—you flee inside.

I grow tall and spread my branches,
weaving spells the rich earth through.
You grow old, your spell entrances
one who vows to love you true.

‘Neath my aegis you two marry,
growing rings that mark your time.
Long after she’s gone you’ll tarry
on a gnarled root, wholly mine.

March of Time

Only a babe, he drew his sword, began the fight. He faced an unconquerable enemy, yet he resolved to fight to the last. He grew, his enemy quailed. Yet by bit his arms sagged, his teeth rotted and his legs legs became bruised and battered til surrender was inevitable

Eighty years the struggle lasted, but in the end Mark laid down his sword, drew his final breath and left the world. With time, age won.

Last minute entry, though I think I'm still on time.

Monotony Affects Even the Strong

Enough was enough. For as long as she could remember she had been running; chasing things. Some had tried to kill her, others to capture her for their own. A few had even tried to sell her!

Every now and then she’d catch one up and pass it by, but the pleasure she got from it ran out long ago – it was tedious now.

She’d show them!

Without warning, she stopped. Around her, things broke.

Father Time

He was the oldest of them; that stood to reason.

Once he’d been held in high esteem. No longer. The young amongst them mocked him. Not openly, certainly, but with their callous, reckless attitudes. They thought themselves kings, and why not? Hordes of worshippers flocked to their alters – sleek Technology, gaudy Celebrity, uncaring Apathy.

Pah! They’d not last. He’d seen better Gods tumble and fall from grace.

He would abide. His time would never come.
