Spoilers there be!

I think it was Boaz that pointed out to me that neither The Blackfish swimming or Noye fighting the giant actually happened in Martin's narrative.

Ygritte dying as a wilding under the wall is another I can think of.

I guess I'm trying to figure out how much I've made up in my head, just by reference.

what a great idea for a thread.

Ok. How about Bran's less than graceful Landing.

Or Theon cutting off the heads of those two kids.

Gared crossing the wall and being captured by northmen

Yeah, that didn't happen, after Jaime pushed him, did it?

He was found by the steward of Winterfell, with a wolf baying mournfully in the courtyard.

I've spent some time thinking on Tyrion's skills as an acrobat, which were only brought up in A Game.......I think.

Not his first trip across the sea.

There must be a million different incidents that didn't actually make it into the manuscript. I think this thread could go on forever. Nothing else is coming to me at the moment though.

I'm pretty sure we've discussed this before. I think what happened there was GRRM hadn't completely fleshed out Tyrion or changed his mind later about Tyrion's characteristics. Tyrion did that flip in AGOT but later on it seems it wouldn't be possible to perform that trick given his physical disabilities. It's a minor point but just about every word gets dissected when we've got 5 year waits between books.

Fair enough, but why was a Targ on The Wall?
Aemon became a maester because some king said that too many royal children are a danger to the ream as well. Then there is the added parts of the dunk and egg novella that i think reveal that after the asoiaf equivalent of the plague brushed by, accompanied with several early deaths (Baelor Breakspear for example), the not-so long ago abundant Targaryen family was reduced so a handful. The righful decendant was i think the young child of some mad tainted targ, so instead a council silently offered the crown to aemon. Whom refused it in favor of Egg.

Somewhere along the line Bloodraven was sent to the wall as well. Probably after a conspiracy, which made the Hand seem like a traitor or so. I'm not too clear about this one, my mind even more foggy about him then with aemon. GRRM never completely stated why Bloodraven was sent to the wall, just hints and clues.

Jon found Ygritte moments before she actually expired. You know nothing, Wigg Snow.

And it is a good idea for discussion... Martin does such a good job of story telling and then filling in the blanks afterwards that we "remember" such events as...

Syrio's death.

Edmure and Roslin playing "Come into my castle."

Shagga's raiding of Stannis.

The building of Frankengregor.

How dare you say Syrio is dead! GRRM told us to draw our own conclusions.

Well he did seem to be in a bad situation when we last heard of him.

However, i liken this scene to Bronn Championing (if that's even a word) Tyrion against the heavily armed knight. If we were to draw our own conclusions right up to the start of that fight, i believe Lil Lord Arryn would have had Tyrion flying like the dragons he oh so loves....

You can draw your own conclusions on how i feel about Syrio, even if its somewhat of an Elvis belief.

*Spoiler alert*! (personally though, I would not read on line about something I didn't wish to be spoiled)

How about Yoren's death? There was another crime scene investigation.

Didn't actually "see" Pod kill Mandon Moore.

Didn't actually "see" how Joffrey got poisoned.

Didn't Jofrrey drank from the giant challice in front of everybody?

Aha! Well Kiwi, we didn't "see" anybody slip poison in the chalice(I'm looking at you Lady Olenna) and we do not know that there was poison in the chalice, we surmise that. Many people who were there thought Tyrion poisoned Joffrey because he was the one who publically argued with Joffrey and was rightfully angry. Or they thought it was Sansa because she also had reasons to do it, disappeared, and could have colluded with Tyrion. But we know that neither of them did it because we were privy to their thoughts.

It would be different if the story is told: Lady Olenna waited till nobody was looking, and slipped the small purple crystal of poison into the chalice. "Ha!" She thought, "Die you evil *******! No way you can hurt my dear Margaery now. Tommen is so much better for our purposes. Good riddence." Instead GRRM has us guessing.

semantics...

technically we did see Joffrey get poisoned.
It's the pre-poisoning actions by olenna that we missed.

This thread is perfect for a pissing contest :)

I just came in from watering our plants after a heatwave. (lol)

Okay, I'll buy that we "didn't see the pre poisoning"! How about that we didn't see the murder?

No, really? In all seriousness, really?

I thought he just looked over a field of dead wildings, went into the passage and got Noye, and had a sense of her body being there.

I wanted to look it up, but my books have been packed, carted, crated and lent over the past few years.

YADL stands strong, I miss that bucktoothed girl. I know that many of you couldn't stand her.

But she is Jon's heart.

We've all, male or female, had that first touch that set our respective stomachs ablaze. She and Jon in the cave, while short, is one of the most romantic things I've ever read.

Now I don't want to find the passage, it'd just bust a bleeding heart :)

No... Ygritte is not Jon's heart. Arya is. Ygritte was just a substitute. If you reread Jon's POVs and count the number of times that he compares Ygritte to Arya (sometimes romantically), you'll be aghast. And since Arya will never be fit to be a bride, but her red headed sister is... Jon will hook up with Sansa. It is known.

Kiwi, yes the plotting for Joffrey's death was never seen... and I wanted to see it so badly.

We also did not get to actually see Brynden telling Lysa to shove it.

Nor did we get to see Jeyne consoling Robb.

Nor did we get to see Oberyn talking to Doran... I would have loved to have witnessed that.

I know that the idea of Arya being Jon's love is a popular one, and may be true.

I just can't buy into it, and not just because it makes me cringe, although that plays a part.

Jon had an ideal of Arya being his "little sister", now whether that is true or not, we'll find out.

With the scene between the two in Winterfell, with Joff in the yard, and Jon ruffles her hair, I just can't see anything beyond a familial love.

Edited to add: I never should have started this thread, I forget Kiwi's exact words about waiting, but this has made those words ring true.

Hadn't thought of that, it would have been a tale for the ages.

Doran was still alpha, but only by a hair's breadth.
