The people who love you are worth more than gold.
Inspired by Blackrook's threads in Aspiring Writers, why not list anime cliches? I don't know if CyBer found the list he mentioned, but I was hoping we could get one going here anyway.

While watching KenIchi at the TU anime club last night, l found myself thinking, "please don't let the girl's dream be to be a bride." I'll be darned if it wasn't! So how many times have I heard that in anime before?

I said to a friend at the club that "they're turning these conventions into cliches."

He said, "Turning? They've been cliche for a long time!"

After I went home, I thought about it and remembered the first time I heard it was from Minmei in Robotech! Whew, that's going back pretty far...

So, I can only think of this one off-hand, but I'll add it here anyway and hopefully some of you will chime in to make this thread as funny as the others.

And ... maybe CyBer will add the one he borrowed too?

1) The lead female characters almost always dream of being a bride.

Martial arts experts in anime can dodge/catch bullets and leap distances that normal humans would need catapults or rocket belts for.

Good thread idea.:)

4) When two childhood friends are reunited when they're older, with the possibility of romance.

5) Robots, human and otherwise, are common in future societies. Most non-humanoid robots are benign domestic helpers, whereas most humanoid robots are dangerous as hell.

White haired teenagers have all the emotion of a stone.

I haven't the foggiest idea what you're referring to Michael. And not that it didn't happen, but more because my memory is crap.

Anyways, found that list that I believe I mentioned.
For anyone reading, it can be found here.

One of my favorite laws:
*#50- Law of Artistic Perversion- Most (not all) Anime artists are perverts and are
under the impression that girls are willing to tear off their clothes, or wear VERY
small, revealing outfits at the drop of a pin (or pen for that matter).
Unfortunately, most Hentai fans are under the same impression.
And here's something to top it off:

Yeah... but because it's true, right? Right?

That's a great list, BTW... I'm fighting the urge to laugh out loud!

13) High strung and over-reactors

Most of the quirky characters get excited, upset or angry easy and start yammering away with high loud voices and exaggerated movements.

14. People get nosebleeds when they are aroused. (I don't know why, you'd think the blood would be going somewhere else.)

15. Jumping on someone's head to make them shut up is perfectly okay.

16. As is hitting them with giant mallets that appear from nowhere in particular.

17. Every girl loves the main character.

18. Some of them are surprisingly accepting when he turns them down for someone else, they've even been expecting it.

19. An important five minutes can last for anything up to an hour.

20. The children's card game, spinning top game, scalextrics or whatever the show is about is the most important thing ever . . . the fate of the world depends on it.

21. Poses.

22. characters who never open their eyes can still see what is going on around them. (if they do open them you see that their eyes are demonic red and happen to change their personality to something blood thirsty, cruel, and all together NOT how they are with their eyes closed.)
-I think this is an interesting way to show characters who never let people get close to them. Taking the idea that the eyes are windows to the soul and drawing curtains over them so that no one can see in (unless the curtains are parted and then you see what a horror house it is, and understand why they are always closed) If these characters are close to the MC then they are more trustworthy than they act. If they are not close the the MC then they are less trustworthy that they act.

23. (but I"m willing to be wrong on this one as I've only just picked up on it by accident.) If there are multiple options for couples to form, they generally have matching eye or hair color to the person they end up with by the end of the season.

All girls are nekos at heart. In Durarara the main character is a headless Irish demon on a motorcycle. She wears a helmet to disguise this fact and IT has cat ears.

Something that bothers me is in almost every anime I have seen, there are always characters standing at the sides giving commentary during a battle scene. Giving you minutiae of every little movement while the antagonist stands there maliciously gloating. It's hilarious, and at times very distracting.
