Lovecraft and music

Absolutely, Delia Derbyshire was an early flag bearer of electronic music, and her theramin heavy Doctor Who theme style, while being quite melodic and not exactly what I'm talking about would still work, i.e. giving a film adaptation a sort of period piece soundtrack feel.

Another composer who just came to mind is Romanian Iancu Dumistrescu and his protege, Ana-Maria Avram. This team, also consider themselves acousmatic composers but also fall under the spectral music umbrella. They have quite a large catalog of music available, and some of their defining sounds are quite harrowing. Talking about it is like dancing about architecture, but think of a huge glass/crystal edifice toppling over...gargantuan sounds at first which slowly morph into tiny pools of infinite sounding degeneration...falling into a black abyss indeed!!!

Thanks all! Now I have plenty of music to try out while writing.

To try to contribute. Here are a few songs, which to me has a Lovecraftian vibe to them:

Urfaust - IX Der Einsiedler
Urfaust - Trauerhöhle

I cannot post links since I haven't got 15 posts yet, but if you search for these on Youtube, you will find them.

Not to bump an old thread, but as a Lovecraft fan who just stumbled across him, I wanted to tell more people about Mitch Kurfis. His music is all instrumental, and sort of jazzy, but he considers his music largely influenced by HP Lovecraft, from what I've read. I was listening to it today as I read through a couple of short stories and thought it went really well with the mood of the story. There are probably clips on youtube, and I downloaded the music from EMusic.

Hopefully, people go back to real music after the profit goes out of bleeping sounds, which computers can virtually write now.
HPL liked cowboy songs. Maybe it was the stories he liked.
