Somewhere good. You're jealous.
It's pretty straightforward. If you had to pick 1 graphic novel / comic book character above all others who would it be and why? Can be from any series, hero, villain, or in between.

I'd have to say Rorschach because he is a total bad ass who blurs the lines of what it means to be a hero.

Now that's just too hard HT, there are far too many to pick from, I think I'm going to go with the Claremont era Cyclops, he turned the moping, introverted teen into a well rounded and almost Captain America level leader and tactician, but human too, his speech as he stands over Jean Grey's grave in Uncanny X-Men 138 is still an emotional punch to the gut.

(In close second is Captain Britain just because)

Johnny Alpha, the Strontium Dog.

Mutant son of an anti-mutant politician, veteran of the mutie uprising and a bounty hunter with morals.

If you get the chance, read, 'Portrait of a Mutant,' an allegorical piece describing his childhood and the rise to power of his father, mutations minister Kreelman and the vicious anti-mutant laws introduced.

That particular story was written when the National Front (Grandfather of the BNP) was at the height of its power and compared the NF's attitude to immigrants and Jews to the Kreeler's anti-mutant laws and the rise of Hitler.

Of course, the kind of morons who supported the NF, couldn't see the joke.

As an American, I feel I have to say that Captain America could beat the crap out of Captain Britain, and then do a better job of policing the world. :p

Just kidding. I never liked the Captain America character, I always felt like his motto should have been "Remember kids: Never trust an immigrant." I can understand the need for the blatant propaganda when it came out, (40s) but you'd think that after the war they'd want to tone it down a bit.

Also, I don't understand why this was moved out of the graphic novels and comics section...

I don't know, there is a lot to admire in the Captain America character. (I don't actually read his ongoing comic, but I buy the graphic novels because they are that good.) Outside of the X-books he is probably one of my favourite characters, and although I agree with you about his past, some of the more recent stories (over the last 15 years), have on occasion really taken a good grip and looked at just what all the symbolism means.

I'm not sure who would kick who in a straight fight between the two Cap's, Britain is certainly more powerful, but America is by far the better fighter... unless CB's sister joined in then CA is toast ;)

I don't get it either HT, if I was going to put a thread like this up it would have been in the comic book section...

And Ace, ahh, Portrait of a Mutant, an absolute near perfect piece of story telling. Strontium Dog was always my favourite 2000AD character and it was mostly down to that story, one of the best in the history of a magazine that has more than a few in it's repertoire.

I think this needs to be moved to the Comics section.

In answer to your question, i've always been more 2000AD than anything else. I'd have to say Judge Dredd, Rogue Trooper and DR and Quinch.

As an aside, though (and I'd gained my nickname long before this was written) I loved the off-the-wall humour of Ace Trucking.:D

Galactus & all his heralds~

I've been fascinated by Galactus, the Silver Surfer & the others since I
first saw them in '66 (just turned 9) ;)
All these years down the road-
if a Silver Surfer comic comes out, I've got to get it~

I've never actually read a Judge Dredd comic, I saw the movie first and it ruined the whole thing for me.

I have to amend my original answer to a toss up between Rorschach and John Hartigan from Sin City.

Not Judge Dredd (although he has his moments) but 2000AD.

You're right about the film, though, particularly the casting of Stallone. The whole point of Dredd is that we never see his face, the only thing Sly could understand about the character and he didn't like it.

The strip often runs on a dry, black humour completely lost on Hollywood.

For me its very easy the ones i like most are the ones i read, collect often.

Daredevil is my alltime fav superhero just beating Batman.

Best non superhero fav is John Constantine of Hellblazer fame.

Fav Manga character is Ogami Ittō from the masterpiece samurai, historical manga Lone Wolf and Cub.

One character for different fields is not correct. The medium is too different in different places, genres.

For me I have two to choose from, I love everything superhero but these two stand out the most to me.

Captain America and Thor!!

Just Love them!!

My dad's is Green Lantern.

Oh and RADIX is your avatar the Gunslinger?

Strontium Dog, yea. Pulger. Harry 20.

One must always respect, nay, fear... the Spectre!
Nobody, but nobody, ever messed with the Spectre. If they tried, he might, oh I don't know... turn them into sand. Or, their eyes would glaze over and they would happily jump into a tank of hungry piranhas. And those were his good days.

I also like Steven comics. No reason why.

Been a Thor fan since I was a kid, too & my
avatar is taken from the cover of A.A. Attanosio's
first novel, "Radix"~ ;)

I forgot about the Spectre until J Riff mentioned him. I've seen him around in Green Lantern comics and he doesn't seem to be a hero or villain, he's just the spirit of vengeance. I've also seen it mentioned that Hal Jordan was at one time the Spectre, which must of been pretty awesome.

And Connavar, that's what makes this hard. I could easily pick a favorite hero and villain from each comic Universe I've read, but trying to pick one character above all others is tough.

I would have said Havok from the X-Men, until everyone reminded me of 2000AD.

<---Nemesis the Warlock is the, er, man.

One character is hard because it depends on the creators, 5 years ago i was crazy about Spiderman until they ruined him storywise and now i read Captain America thanks to Brubaker despite i thought Cap was an american joke....

Unlike other comic readers i read like 25% american comics 25% european and 50% manga. So i dont just read superhero, vertigo, other genre of american comics.

I have to respect the rest of the comics world.

Spectre was a dead/living cop- Corrigan?... who only shows up where there are major league bad guys to deal with- and kills them. Turned to glass and shattered, eaten by insects- anything goes. I reckon Spectre could do the same kind of thing to Superman if he felt like it... or if he caught the Man of Steel in the act of committing a crime.

Captain Marvel
from Marvel Comics

He was an exiled alien from the Kree Planet (he didn't want to be a soldier trained only to kill), and came to Earth to start a new life. He was a warrior that was fearless, brave, a natural leader, he protected the weak, fought against injustice, saved the universe on several occasions and gave his life to save the Earth.

A super-villain named Nitro who had the power to explode and reform himself, stole a man-made nerve agent called Compound 13, but was defeated by Capt. Marvel. The container which encased the bio-weapon became slightly breached, Mar-vell (his real name) developed cancer from inhailing a tiny quantity of the highly lethal nerve gas that could have wiped out every living thing on the planet. Captain Marvel died a couple of years later, every superhero was there at his funeral, while the Kree planet rejoiced at his passing, the Skrull's homeworld honored Mar-vell for being their greatest foe.
