Favorite Comic Character

One character is hard because it depends on the creators, 5 years ago i was crazy about Spiderman until they ruined him storywise and now i read Captain America thanks to Brubaker despite i thought Cap was an american joke....

That sounds a lot like me, I'm not sure we stopped reading Spider-man at the same point - I stopped reading when they reset the character a few years ago. But have been reading Captain America since Brubaker took over. There have been good stories in the past (standing out amongst the rest) but nothing comes close to the current run.

Spectre was a dead/living cop- Corrigan?... who only shows up where there are major league bad guys to deal with- and kills them. Turned to glass and shattered, eaten by insects- anything goes. I reckon Spectre could do the same kind of thing to Superman if he felt like it... or if he caught the Man of Steel in the act of committing a crime.

I like the sound of that - not completely up on the DC characters, but if the Spectre's powers are mystical in nature, would that not make Superman doubly susceptible to them?

Captain Marvel
from Marvel Comics

He was an exiled alien from the Kree Planet (he didn't want to be a soldier trained only to kill), and came to Earth to start a new life. He was a warrior that was fearless, brave, a natural leader, he protected the weak, fought against injustice, saved the universe on several occasions and gave his life to save the Earth.

A super-villain named Nitro who had the power to explode and reform himself, stole a man-made nerve agent called Compound 13, but was defeated by Capt. Marvel. The container which encased the bio-weapon became slightly breached, Mar-vell (his real name) developed cancer from inhailing a tiny quantity of the highly lethal nerve gas that could have wiped out every living thing on the planet. Captain Marvel died a couple of years later, every superhero was there at his funeral, while the Kree planet rejoiced at his passing, the Skrull's homeworld honored Mar-vell for being their greatest foe.

A absolute classic story, and an excellent character, there have been Captain Marvel's after them, but nothing has compared to the original.

Bit of a toss-up between Marv from Sin City and Bigby Wolf of Fables fame.

Having said that I do have a bit of soft spot for Green Arrow

Very true, I was tremendously disappointed and sad when the original Captain Marvel had died, I just couldn't believe that Marvel Comics would do that.

Anyway, after I posted in this thread I added in the "Art" section a few pictures in the "Comic Book Covers" thread of some Captain Marvel comics along with the graphic novel The Death of Captain Marvel.

It's pretty straightforward. If you had to pick 1 graphic novel / comic book character above all others who would it be and why?

I would have to go old school with the original GREEN LANTERN, railroad engineer "Alan Scott" from the 1940(s).

Green Lantern was unique in the world of Superhero's as 'their' powers are passed on like and inheritance, as new people are able to don the suit, the ring and the powers. Today there is an entire corps of Green Lanterns that span the universe. What could be better than that?

You or I could be next!

HAHA, that's one of the things I always liked about the Green Lanterns and Marvel's mutants. It took seemingly ordinary people from anywhere in the world (galaxy) and made them something special. The Alan Scott Green Lantern was very different from the ones we have today though.

And PM, I don't know much about the Spectre, but the few times I've seen him he did seem to be something almost divine. I've never seen anyone hurt him or trick him, everyone just fears his unpredictability and awesome power.

Mazikeen & Lucifer (Lucifer)
Cassidy (Preacher)
Rick (Walking Dead)
Batman
Marv (Sin City)
The Joker

Tons! Can't decide.

The Spectre is a supernatural being of vengance Superman like heroes are no contest to a being like that.

The Spectre is more than Corrigan, the latest human host is not as important.

The one thing about a thread like this, is people mention other characters and you immediately think, I forgot about that one... in this instance Cassidy, which led me to think about other Vertigo titles and Death came to mind... (but I'll stick with my initial choice)

As to Superman vrs the Spectre, in an all out fair fight, Spectre would win. Easily. But... does it matter, why would he ever go after Superman?

Liked Turok- Son of Stone, back in the day. Turok and Andar search for a way out of the secret valley, while battling dinosaurs (honkers) with poison-tipped arrows.
