15 Minute GOT Preview

Thrirty-four hours to go... and I broke down and watched it. I admit that I am very excited for the show and thus I believe I am not remotely objective.

In this preview, I knew exactly what was happening... but will someone brand new to Westeros? In the fourteen minute preview, of the fifteen or so characters that I saw only two were named... Eddard uses Bran's name once and he names himself once. I don't know how long that trend will continue, but it might well test the patience and comprehension of many people. I loved the fact that GRRM hit the ground running in AGOT and expected me to keep up... but I don't know if most viewers will be the same... Mayhaps I'm underestimating them.

For those of you who've not read AGOT... pay attention to the colors of eyes and hair. They will denote family relations. For example, a few posters above commented the difficulty in discerning Robb and Jon. If you remember their hair color, you'll know immediately who is who. But of course, as a newbie to AGOT you won't know their hair color yet... Robb has red hair and Jon has brown.

I was struck by one thing that I'd not noticed in reading... and I think this was made because of the insertrion of Bran's archery practice... but Jon's care and instruction of Bran goes more than brotherly concern, it begins to set the stage for his transistion to leadership.

Sean Bean definitely brings out the cold fish demeanor of Eddard. He's a hard man... and fully in charge.

One last thing, does anyone else think that Ser Waymar Royce looks like Matt Damon's younger brother?

Personally I thought he was a lost Wahlberg brother.

All the reviews I've read have addressed the issue of new viewers being confused by the large cast of characters, in so saying that it works out well with the series.

I've seen a post (which may have been on the Chrons or elsewhere) to the effect that the credits come between the prologue and the Winterfell scenes.
