Best possible ending?

Just want to know everyones opinion on the best possible ending for the series.

I personally would love to see some sort of last stand by Dany and a united Westeros against the others, only to be defeated in the 11th hour. And the series finishes with the implication of doom for the entirety of Westeros.

Dark, nihilistic, but it would be beyond epic.

Sorry if there already is a thread on this; searched first few pages and found nothing..
 
Tyrion riding on Drogons back with a glass of Arbor Red, swinging Un-Cats head around while Drogon blasts a huge fireball into a staked up Walder Frey.........

Best possible ending? 1. Jaime forces Walder Frey into a trial by combat for his crimes. 2. Jaime sends Cersei back to Casterly Rock... with a trebuchet. 3. Arianne seduces the Blackfish. 4. Hodor learns to speak. 5. Sansa invites Roose Bolton to the Red Prom. 6. We find out that Jon was immaculately concieved.

HODOR! HODOR!


1. The "others" infiltrate Westeros, a new dawn of ice
2. Freys put up as fodder units, Walder leading the way
3. Jaime is commander but organising "la resistance" is a ... female dog.
4. Dragons come to play, but proof insufficient, making things worse.
5. Tyrion comes up with a plan, refuses to go through with it unless Cersei gets a beating.
6. R'hollor comes into play, but is very selective in his aid.
7. Battles battles battles battles battles, including Mow-downs and Show downs in the major houses.
8. "last stand" featuring Ned Stark with his "first love", acknowledges Jon, take up the command of whoever's left in Westeros. Added with perhaps the "return of the Hound" as a (ironically) new "fire" as a "kicker".
9. The Starks (including the ******* Starks) turn the tides, turn out to be "iceguardians of old", Hodor suddenly speaks words that announce a new dawn, battles battles battles.
10. Westeros is left scarred and beaten, but the treath seems to have been averted. Why is it still so damn cold though?


Note: I should reread the entire series to make an actual "guess", but this seemed like fun :p don't mean to put up a storm though :D
 
Will wakes up to see the sun streaming through the leaves of the beautiful northern forest. (They didn't have plumbed-in showers in those days.) Then he's executed for sleeping on duty (pour encourager les Autres ;)).

Wow, this would be an amazing ending ... but I don't see it! :)

GRRM said it would be bittersweet, so I reckon loads of main characters must die. Jaime and Cersei will die together, Dany and Tyrion will probably go in a huge Ice v Fire battle where the dragons are destroyed by northern ice vampires. I reckon Bran, Jon and Sansa will survive. Bran stays at Winterfell and rules the north, Jon also remains in the North in charge of a rejuvenated Night Watch and Sansa becomes queen in Kings Landing. No idea who she marries, but I've no doubt he'll be handsome and knightly!

Something along those lines seems likely, with lots of twists on the way there.
 
Come on people, everyone knows the 3 eyed crow ridden by King Bran will destroy the 3 dragons ridden by Dany, Jon, and Tyrion. Howland Reed will be the hand and Jergen Reed will be Lord Commander of the Kings gaurd.

Jaime and Sir Illyn Payne will be killed by the Blackfish while they're out sparring with each other in the cover of night. Brienne and Podric will get a second chance, which will prompt Podric and Brienne to kill the Blackfish. Arya will meet up with Asha Greyjoy and form an alliance that will threaten the 7 kingdoms.

Geesh! It's right there in front of you. And to think that i looked up to some of guys and gals. SMH!

I hope he is just saying that. The fall of Westeros due to the game of thrones, the failure of prophecies and magic, and the sheer inability to unite until it is too late would just be oh so sweet.

I also expect him to do a "world is saved, your fav characters are dead" ending. I just hope he shocks us all.
 
Well, Tragedy, GRRM is a social critic, so he might do the former! But the latter seems more likely.

Let's see, Littlefinger saves Cersei from herself and marries her at the end as part of the spoils and he sits the Iron Throne as the best gamer. Cersei repeats her history and is the queen consort. They adopt Sansa who is forced to marry Jaime. Tyrion is the new hand and gets back together with Tysha. Sansa, Tyrion and Jaime ride the dragons. Everyone else dies. One big happy royal family survives at the end and Littlefinger makes a deal with the Others and cedes everthing north of the neck. Westeros is set up for sequels.

Sansa with Jaime, and her already married to Tyrion. It's all so ... incestuous. So that should work out fine then!

And Cersei and Littlefinger, yikes, that is not a pairing I would have considered in a hundred years. So, yeah, I like it! And twisty turny Littlefinger would sell out the north in a minute (whilst building a palace in Braavos). Hmmm, the more I think about it, Littlefinger is just like every other banker in the world - a devious, profiteering little sh*t!

Tragedy, I think you have the right of it where you say "world is saved, your fav characters are dead", but since everyone's favourite character is different, we just don't know who's for the chop! I'm already resigned to the fact that Jaime - my fav character - is not going to survive. I'm really, really hoping that Tyrion (who I suspect is GRRM's fav character) makes it, otherwise the last book's going to be a tear-and-snot-fest.

:D So our experience with ASOIAF has taught us.

I've said Gendry for the throne before and I'll stick to that. Someone suggested Sansa as Queen? Interesting. I wonder what Arya would make of Gendry and Sansa? Like the idea of Littlefinger and Cersei.

I won't even venture into the rest. All I know is there'll be thrills, spills and lotsa chills. Of the chills I'm most certain. *eh! eh! nudge nudge, wink wink*

At this juncture I'll just say the best possible ending is one that gets written - by George R. R. Martin - and which he's happy with.

And Arya lives.
 
Best thing possible about the ending? Not having to read anymore Bran chapters.

I still think that House Stark wwill have a "showdown with House Lannister. That may very well come before the final confrontation with the Others, or perhaps after.
